?? Celebrating a True Community Hero! ?? On Wednesday, we had the incredible honor of celebrating Keontrai Floyd, a teen whose generosity and heart continue to inspire us all. Previously highlighted as a young hero for using his own money to buy holiday gifts for the children of Life Haven, Keontrai was officially recognized by the New Haven Board of Alders and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro as a true community leader. Surrounded by his family, friends, mentors, teachers, and co-workers from Sikorsky, Keontrai was honored at a special ceremony hosted by New Reach. Turning Loss into Love: James Mitchell Sr.'s Legacy of Giving ?? When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade—and that’s exactly what James Mitchell Sr. has done! A longtime donor to New Reach, James honored the memory of his late wife, Georgie, by creating a memorial fund and writing a book about their life together. All proceeds from the book and memorial go directly to supporting New Reach’s mission. Thanks to James’ generosity, 25 families in our shelters now have brand-new comforter sets and pillows, bringing them warmth and comfort during difficult times. Preventing Homelessness Through Partnership ?? A mother with three children was facing eviction after her landlord filed a retaliatory nuisance complaint when she reported unaddressed repairs. With legal support from @CT Legal Services and guidance from our Stable Families Program, she fought to keep her family housed. Despite challenges—lost income, an active eviction on record, and limited time to relocate—she remained persistent. With her New Reach caseworker’s advocacy, she secured a new home just in time, navigating Section 8 paperwork and rental negotiations with hands-on support.
