关于我们
For 137 years, the ships built at Newport News Shipbuilding, like the American shipbuilders who built them, have served our nation in peace and war, in times of adversity and in times of abundance. Our legacy of “Always Good Ships,” includes the design, construction, overhaul and repair of more than 800 ships for the U.S. Navy and commercial customers. Today, Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is the nation’s sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two shipyards capable of designing and building nuclear- powered submarines. We also provide ?eet services for naval ships. We are the largest industrial employer in Virginia, employing more than 25,000 people, many of whom are third- and fourth-generation shipbuilders.

We’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of #NationalApprenticeshipWeek through Nov. 23! Newport News Shipbuilding has embraced the power of apprentice education for more than 100 years. Founded in 1919, NNS’ Apprentice School is a national model and helps to train and develop the next generation of shipbuilders. To commemorate the week, we asked three current apprentices – Amber Rose Storms, Shaana “Shay” Thomas and R.J. Abercrombie – to reflect on their experiences at The Apprentice School. I hope you will take a moment to read their stories here: https://lnkd.in/eATxi5DR With up-and-coming leaders like these three, I’m confident our shipyard will be in good hands for years to come!

Newport News shipbuilders successfully moved the mid-body hull section of US Navy Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier Enterprise (#CVN80) within the dry dock for the first time. Take a look at this time-lapse video showing the evolution, and then read about why this move is historic and will set up the shipyard to begin building two aircraft carriers in the dry dock at the same time: https://lnkd.in/eWkYTywp

We had a great time honoring Newport News Shipbuilding’s Master Shipbuilder Class of 1984 Friday night. To serve your country the way these shipbuilders have for 40 years is a degree of loyalty like none other. Our company, our Navy and our country are all the better because of it. I hope every member of the class is proud of their service and the difference they make – through their own work and as they mentor newer shipbuilders. Thank you all! Please enjoy these photos from Friday’s celebration, and see more here: https://lnkd.in/eM35jtBK

As we celebrate #VeteransDay, Newport News Shipbuilding is proud to honor all who have served. Our commitment to the veteran community goes far beyond one day. That’s why we’ve partnered with SkillBridge, a United States Department of Defense program designed to help service members who are preparing for military discharge. It allows them to begin navigating civilian work life while receiving on-the-job training. ? We welcomed US Navy interns Katie Yarboro and Garrett Halman to NNS this summer through SkillBridge. Former service members are a natural fit for shipbuilding, and we look forward to welcoming even more veterans into our ranks. ? Tonight, we celebrate an extraordinary group of women and men – Newport News Shipbuilding’s Master Shipbuilder Class of 1984. These shipbuilders have given their all to support the US Navy for the past four decades. Like our ships, they are all national treasures. The American skill and craftsmanship that they pour into our fleet every day keeps us free. Please join me in congratulating these shipbuilders for reaching their 40-year milestone! I also invite you to watch this video, which celebrates the service and loyalty of those who started their careers at NNS in 1984.

Today, I share the bittersweet news that after much thought and careful consideration, I will retire as president of Newport News Shipbuilding at the end of this year. It is the right time for me personally as I look forward to spending more time with my family, including the latest addition of our first grandchild. It has been my absolute honor and greatest privilege to serve as your president. Over the past few years, we’ve faced some of the toughest challenges in our long and glorious history, and addressed them head-on – fearlessly and transparently. And while our work is never done, I remain confident in you, and will transition into retirement knowing you will lead on to continued greatness. I am very happy to share that Kari Wilkinson will transition from her role as president of Ingalls to serve as the 21st president of Newport News Shipbuilding, effective Jan. 1, 2025. Kari will bring great energy, technical excellence and strong leadership to NNS, and I believe her different perspectives and experiences will serve this great company well. She is the right leader at the right time, and I ask you to join me in welcoming her into our NNS family. Over the next two months, Kari and I will work closely to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. I also look forward to meeting with shipbuilders across the yard to thank you for your hard work and commitment. I will remain with HII through the first part of next year to provide support for key corporate efforts. It is impossible to sum up a 37-year career in a short letter. But I can say this: If in my youth, someone told me I would one day lead the greatest shipyard and the finest shipbuilders to build the most amazing ships in the world, I never would have believed it! Without a doubt, I will miss most the extraordinary people who make Newport News Shipbuilding such a special place to work. Thank you for believing in the dignity of hard work, craftsmanship, and the purpose of our mission.
