On February 18, 2025, the Newpark Drilling Fluids Technical Center officially opened its doors at Othman Business Park in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia in partnership with Gas & Oil Technologies - GOtech! ? This state-of-the-art facility, supported by Saudi aramco, underscores a strong partnership aimed at driving innovation in drilling fluid technologies. The new Technology Center, complete with an advanced laboratory, is set to become a cornerstone for pioneering solutions that enhance drilling efficiency, optimize operations, develop national expertise and uphold environmental sustainability within the Kingdom. The inauguration was attended by Saudi aramco, including Drilling and Workover management, led by the Vice President and Chief Drilling Engineer: Mr. Nayef Al-Ghafel, Drilling Technology Director: Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Hashem, P&SCM Director: Mr. Ahmed Al-Zahrani, and representatives from D&WO, Purchasing Department and EXPEC ARC, as well as fluid domain champions from Bapco Energies . ? The Pinang 24-H01 well, the first horizontal well drilled by IDESS in the PHR area, aimed to reach a nearby formation with a 90° inclination. Offset wells in the same field faced significant challenges, including overpull, excessive tagging, and differential sticking. The well was planned to drill 1,615 ft of lateral section into the Bekasap sand formation, with an anticipated bottom hole static temperature of 210°F. ?? The Challenge:? - Drill through reactive shales? - Mitigate hole cleaning issues and torque & drag in 90-degree inclination with a customized KCI-Polymer drilling fluid? - Engineer one fluid for surface hole and reservoir drilling? ?? Our Solution:? An engineered solution, including:?? - Monitoring of hole cleaning using ClearTrack? hydraulics software, comparing predicted vs. actual ECD and cuttings carrying capacity to avoid fluid-related NPT? - Close monitoring of fluid properties at rig site, with samples sent away for deeper lab analysis and validation? - A customized KCl-Polymer WBM to optimize the rheological profile? - A dedicated sweep strategy to enhance hole cleaning ??
