Don't hire for 'culture fit.' Hire for 'values fit.' ? Most managers want to know if a candidate fits their company environment, but there are problems with hiring for 'culture fit.' ? - It's vague -- there's no universal definition - It's biased -- humans default to unconsciously biased impressions - It's hard to measure -- without a clear definition, it's hard to know when you have it 'Values fit' looks at how well a candidate shares your company's values. ? While it might sound similar to culture fit, it has several benefits: ? - It gives a better idea of what's measured - It signals a candidate's motivation and alignment toward the mission - It's truer to the best way of hiring for person-organization fit When measuring 'values fit' in an interview, I liked these examples from a recent article in Worklife (see comments for link). ? 1.
