Over 80% of students leave the faith in college. Joining campus ministry in college is often the last thing on a student’s mind. They face distraction after distraction, forget to connect, and lose their way. Campus ministers are in a tough spot, too. With little resources and no assurance that students connect, outreach becomes a game of ‘needle in a haystack.’ That’s where Newman Ministry comes in. We exist to connect students with a Catholic community on campus so their faith thrives in college and beyond. This happens in two ways: Newman Connection, our flagship program, is a simple-to-implement program that connects high school seniors to campus ministries at their college of choice (before they get to campus). Newman Grow offers training, coaching, and community to help campus ministry leaders grow and do better ministry. Newman Ministry ensures high school seniors keep their faith in college, and campus ministers are equipped to inspire lifelong disciples.

Students deserve more than career training at college—they deserve formation that helps them grow into leaders, thinkers, and disciples. Let’s keep working together to ensure they find faith-filled communities that shape them into who God called them to be! ??
Universities today are churning out employees, not thinkers. A degree used to mean something. Now? It’s a checkbox. A path to a job. A pipeline into the system. But 150 years ago, John Henry Newman saw this coming. He warned: if universities stopped forming the whole person, they’d stop producing real leaders. In the 19th century, universities became hyper-specialized. Doctors learned medicine. Lawyers learned law. But Newman saw the danger. A person who knows one thing—but lacks wisdom, virtue, and critical thinking—is not truly educated. So he wrote The Idea of a University, arguing that: - Universities should form the whole person, not just their career. - Education should teach how to think, not just what to do. - Faith and reason are not enemies—they belong together. Newman saw what many still miss today: - An education that doesn’t form character isn’t an education at all. - A degree is useless if it doesn’t make you more human. Newman believed true education isn’t just about what you learn, but who you become. As I reflect on this I ask myself: Am I learning for wisdom or just success? Is my faith shaping my intellect or are they separate? Where do I need to grow—not just in knowledge, but in character? Real education never stops. This is why we at Newman Ministry exist. Whether it’s through connecting students to campus ministry, building faith-based housing, or developing community-building tools, we exist to help students become fully formed—spiritually, intellectually, and personally. Because college isn’t just about getting a job. It’s about becoming who you were made to be. Let’s build the future Newman envisioned.
