Gallup identified the 4 most common negative emotions that correlate to engagement in our workday: Stress, Worry, Sadness and Anger. Gallup says we can feel all of these emotions and still be engaged in our work or disengaged. So, what's the best approach? Gallup identified what created a positive environment & engagement - 1. Being well rested (said no new parent ever!) 2. Being treated with respect 3. Smiling and laughing at work 4. Learning something new or interesting Not being well rested, being treated with disrespect, finding no fun or humor in the workplace, and not learning something new of course are the opposite, and cause us to feel the negative aspects of the emotions identified and disengage.
