Since 1988, NewFest has been providing a platform for LGBTQIA+ filmmakers to share their work, bringing the queer community together to celebrate its stories. We present year-round screenings and events that include The New York LGBTQ Film Festival, now running for 35+ years. NewFest is dedicated to bringing together filmmakers and audiences to build a community that passionately supports giving voice and visibility to a wide range of representations of the LGBTQIA+ experience. We are committed to nurturing emerging queer and allied filmmakers. We support artists who are willing to take risks in telling the stories that fully reflect the diversity and complexity of our lives.

We love our friends at Netflix and are so grateful for their partnership on The New Voices Filmmaker Grant, which provides financial support and mentorship for emerging LGBTQ+ filmmakers. 12 filmmakers have received the grant so far; next round of applications opens in January!
Our partnership with NewFest began in 2021 as part of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, and it was driven by a shared commitment to create more opportunities for underrepresented storytellers. Since then, the NewFest New Voices Filmmaker Grant has supported 12 filmmakers and these talented folks have gone on to do incredible things, including writing on an upcoming Netflix series.
