We're thrilled to announce our 2023 class of Equal Justice Works Fellows! These 76 outstanding lawyers have designed their own Fellowship project and will begin their work at 70 host organizations across the country this fall. Sponsored by leading law firms, corporations, private foundations, and individual donors, these Fellows will spend the next two years addressing unmet civil legal needs in underresourced communities throughout the country. “It is a joy and privilege to welcome these passionate public service leaders who share our vision of equal access to justice for all,” said Verna Williams, Equal Justice Works CEO. “With access to legal aid out of reach for too many and longstanding legal protections continuing to remain in jeopardy, the work of these talented new lawyers—destined to make an impact in countless communities and our justice system—is more important than ever.” Congratulations, Fellows!

NEIP’s Executive Director, Radha Natarajan, alongside co-counsel Charlotte Whitmore of Boston College Innocence Program, were recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a 2023 Lawyer of the Year for their work representing Mr. Thomas Rosa, an innocent man whose murder conviction was overturned last year based on new DNA and eyewitness identification evidence. While this is an incredible honor, Mr. Rosa still faces the prospect of a fourth murder trial after spending 34 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. We hope this award and Mr. Rosa’s story of injustice will help amplify the difficulties -- and resistance -- we face fighting wrongful convictions. The fight continues. #FreeThomasRosa Read the article: https://lnkd.in/e4Xxx7U7.
