New Energy Nexus (NEX) is the world's leading ecosystem of funds and accelerators supporting diverse clean energy entrepreneurs to thrive, from emerging tech through to clean energy distribution and adoption. New Energy Nexus builds ecosystems and runs programs that are locally tailored to support the specific needs of entrepreneurs in that region: providing accelerator services, capital, mentoring, skills, and networks to help clean energy entrepreneurs thrive. We know that getting the right resources to entrepreneurs at the right time will unlock the clean energy solutions the world needs to tackle climate change. NEX started in Silicon Valley and now has programs and partners across 10 countries that we’ve identified as most strategic for clean energy development. Since 2004, NEX has accelerated 650 startups, leveraged over US$1.5 billion in investment, and supported more than 3,000 entrepreneurs. And that’s just the start. We have an ambitious goal to reach 100,000 entrepreneurs by 2030 - a solutions movement that benefits 100% of the population in the shortest time possible.

Did you see the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s most recent forecast for renewable energy? It's essential reading…. ?? The world is adding a massive 670 GW of new renewable energy capacity in 2024! ?? By 2030, we’re on track to add 5,500 GW, surpassing even governments’ national targets. ?? By 2030, the share of solar PV & wind alone in the global power mix is set to double to 30%. ?? Electricity demand is set to grow 6x as fast up to 2035, driven by EVs, ACs, chips, AI, & more. ???? China is set to cement its position as the global renewables leader, accounting for 60% of the expansion in global capacity to 2030. ???? ???? The EU and the US are forecast to double the pace of renewable capacity growth between 2024 and 2030. ???? But India's renewable capacity is growing at the fastest rate among major economies. This all represents a HUGE opportunity for clean energy entrepreneurs. But it’s also a call to action. 40% of the climate tech the planet needs to reach 2050 climate goals is still under development, and 750 million people still lack access to electricity. This data from Mordor Intelligence shows the country's vast potential for clean energy, particularly solar—highlighting the need to support startups and individuals who can accelerate this growth. New Energy Nexus Philippines recently wrapped up the 2024 Solar Innovation Program, an annual initiative boosting the competitiveness of solar PV installers, engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) companies, and solar equipment suppliers in the country's dynamic energy sector. ?? The culmination event saw mock proposal presentations from participating entrepreneurs as well as insightful panel discussions on clean energy trends and challenges. I had often heard the tales of the Bajo tribes, who have lived for centuries in harmony with the marine ecosystem. Now, as the Senior Program Associate at New Energy Nexus?for the?Dilau Initiative, a coastal decarbonization project, I get the chance to know the community more, specifically the Bajo descent who live in Bungin Island, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Having spent time in Bungin Island, I realize that they have been practicing sustainable living for centuries—long before it became a global trend. Their way of life is rooted in minimizing the impact of human activities on the environment and respecting nature as an integral part of their existence. Their management of marine resources, guided by deeply rooted norms, demonstrates how collective identity can lead to sustainable practices. For them, the sea is their friend (sehe), a healer (tabar), a provider of food (anudinta), a means of mobility (lalang), a home (patambangan), and a source of both good and bad (pamunang ala’ baka raha’). This holistic view of the sea has allowed them to use the ocean's resources wisely, without exploitation, and to protect the coral reefs (sappa) where they fish. These communities have long been ahead of the curve, practicing “sustainable living” on a low budget, and I’ve learned so much from them. Sometimes, modernity disrupts these traditions, making life more destructive to both the environment and the community itself. Sustainable development hinges on building upon local wisdom and preserving the natural environment. Empowering local communities means respecting and enhancing their knowledge, not dismissing it as irrelevant to modern progress. Now, I understand that my role is not to change their character or way of life, which is already in harmony with sustainability, but to offer them alternative options for a more efficient way of living.
