New Chapter, Inc.

Last week I had the great pleasure to visit one of New Chapter's closest partners, GMG in Dubai to meet with the team and see their fantastic Supercare Pharmacy stores. I want to thank the broader GMG team for the great passion they put towards building the New Chapter, Inc. brand. I am in awe of the care and pride the team takes in growing New Chapter. Our partnership and joint business is thriving - something we should be proud of! Secondly, the support and generosity from the GMG team is special. I felt like part of the family during my entire stay (yes, the family culture is real). I enjoyed spending time and getting to know the many people behind this phenomenal organization. Finally, spending a week in a different country is always a good reminder that there are so many different cultures and perspectives that we can all learn from. I truly enjoyed learning more about the culture in the UAE and hearing about the different ways consumer behavior is evolving and how the retail world operates!

At the end of August, I was able to enjoy one of the most incredible work experiences of my career—a trip to the northern fjords of Iceland to see how New Chapter’s Bone Strength calcium is sourced. At New Chapter, Inc. we say: “We source our ingredients from where they naturally grow best...”?I whole-heartedly believe this, and during this trip, I was able to experience how we harness the power of nature. Joining me on this experience was 11 colleagues from New Chapter, Whole Foods, Stauber, and Marigot (yes, the entire supply chain).?The group ventured to the 200-person town of Bíldudalar (Imagine green, mountainous landscape, pristine blue ocean water, hot springs, and waterfalls—all within a 10-mile radius). Lying beneath the ocean water is algae that slowly calcifies and is sustainably harvested to provide our potent calcium. Seeing the harvesting process was fascinating. We took a small motorboat to the large harvesting vessel. On our way, a rocky 30-minute trip through the aforementioned pristine Icelandic waters, the waves were having their way with the boat. We found comfort in nausea wristbands, medication, and the sight of whales jumping 250 yards away from us— an “is this real?” moment for the group. The harvesting vessel safely and sustainably vacuums the calcified algae from the bottom of the ocean floor, finding it with unique GPS technology. With these tools, the vessel is able to navigate the precise location of where it has previously been to ensure 1) that it doesn’t harm the ocean floor and 2) that it efficiently finds the enriched minerals that Mother Earth has provided. The operation runs 24/7 for a few weeks at a time and our group was lucky enough to experience 3 hours of harvesting. We also had the opportunity to meet wonderful Icelandic people in the community and see all the beauty that surrounds it. I want to share a few thoughts that have left an imprint in my mind: *I am so proud to be a part of a company that is committed to finding such amazing, sustainable ingredients *Experiencing this with the entire supply chain was surreal. The group comprised of the vessel operators all the way to the retailer who sells the product on their shelf. *Communities and economies are built around our efforts. The town of Bíldudalar partly depends on our sourcing efforts (in addition to Salmon fishing). This gives even greater purpose to the effort of selling our products. This experience was magical and helped me gain an even better appreciation for what we do at New Chapter. Honored to be able to share with the LinkedIn community.
