An average NewBeauty consumer incorporates at least?6 skincare product types into their routine every day,?ensuring their regimen covers essentials like moisturizers and SPF while addressing specific needs with serums and eye creams. 87.2%?of them identify wrinkles and fine lines as their top skin concern. We’re looking for retinol products, seeking peptides, prioritizing niacinamide and other antioxidants, venturing into beta-glucan and polynucleotides. In fact, 67% of us are still looking for our “holy grail” anti-aging cream. Whatever the reason, NewBeauty consumers are 2.5X more likely to try new brands and products than the average beauty consumer. That's probably why our annual NewBeauty and Reader's Choice Awards fuel our beauty circle's shopping lists. New FDA Guidelines Push for Pulse Oximeter Accuracy Across All Skin Tones: The FDA believes better accuracy across skin tones is possible. These medical devices are used to estimate the amount of oxygen being carried by blood. The new guidance concerns the accuracy of these devices across all skin tones. In 2024, studies indicated that pulse oximeters had a different level of accuracy when used on lighter skin tones compared to?darker skin tones. The new guidance recommends manufacturers “gather clinical data, among other things, to help improve the clinical study design and validation efforts for pulse oximeters used for medical purposes to evaluate their performance across the range of skin pigmentation,” explains the?press release?for the updated FDA guidelines. The compact, “lab-on-a-chip” device promises to take personalized skin care to the next level by offering in-depth insights into a user’s?skin biology?in just five minutes. Tapping into something called proteomics, the study of proteins and how they affect skin aging, the Cell BioPrint can?analyze?key biomarkers to reveal our skin’s biological age, predict how it will respond to ingredients like retinol and even forecast?potential concerns?like?dark spots?and enlarged pores.
