The New York State Police will be hosting a special informative event for local students to meet and learn from forensic scientists and other professionals from the New York State Police (NYSP) Crime Laboratory System (CLS) with sessions exploring different disciplines of forensic science. Sessions are free and open to the public. The lecture content is designed for high school and college students. No pre-registration required. After each lecture session, students will have the opportunity to meet with forensic scientist mentors to answer any questions and for a more personal and in- depth look into the mentors’ own experiences. Students can apply this knowledge to their own academic and professional paths while also networking with students and faculty from other academic institutions. A Historic Day in Lake Placid: NYS Police Played a Prominent Role in the Winter Olympics On February 13, we mark a unique moment in history—the end of the 1932 Winter Olympics and the beginning of the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. During both Games, the New York State Police played a prominent role in ensuring the success and safety of these iconic events. From assisting with logistics and supporting the athletes to helping create an unforgettable atmosphere for the world to watch, their dedication was key in making both Olympics monumental moments in history. On February 6, 2025, 176 Troopers were celebrated for their hard work and commitment in completing the 216th Basic School at the New York State Police Academy in Cazenovia, NY. A graduation ceremony was held in their honor at the Empire Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY. Starting next week, the newly graduated Troopers will be deployed to their designated Troops across the state, where they will undergo 10 weeks of field training. Congratulations, be safe, and best of luck in your new assignments!
