Check out NYSEIA Executive Director Noah Ginsburg and NYLCV President Julie Tighe's joint op-ed calling for the New York State Senate, New York State Assembly and the Governor (New York State Executive Chamber) to step up and support solar power in New York's 2026 budget and legislative session. "Solar energy has been one of New York’s brightest success stories, but without further action, its momentum could go dim. The path is clear, the benefits are undeniable, and the moment for action is now. Let’s seize it." https://lnkd.in/evK8rgUF
Check out my joint op-ed with Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters calling for New York to double down on rooftop and community solar this legislative session. We have momentum, but we need the legislature and the Governor to step up and follow through. Now is the time for New York to cut through permitting and interconnection red tape and approve targeted investments to make solar power more affordable for New York families. Let's go! That's a wrap! This week, NYSEIA hosted two successful lobby days in Albany. It’s not just smart politics to say that America needs renewables to meet skyrocketing electricity demand and counteract rising energy costs. These are FACTS. Solar power paired with energy storage can be built faster and cheaper than fossil fuel and nuclear resources. As America pursues an “all of the above” strategy, hopefully congress doesn’t handicap the economy by cutting support for our dominant and most affordable options. Ensuring clean and abundant energy supply isn’t just a federal issue. Blue States can cut the Red Tape to make it faster and cheaper to build solar, wind and energy storage facilities today.

On Tuesday, the New York State Senate and Assembly released their FY 2026 budget proposals. New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA) applauds the Senate and Assembly for both including a proposal to modernize New York’s residential solar tax credit. NYSEIA thanks the prime bill sponsors Senator Harckham and Assemblywoman Walker for championing this legislation as well as the many co-sponsors along with Senate and Assembly leadership who had the vision and commitment to advance this impactful policy. The residential solar tax credit modernization will: raise the per household tax credit cap to account for inflation and the cost of energy storage; make the credit refundable for low-income families and seniors; and ensure that homeowners in co-ops and condos can equally benefit. The cost of this investment is dwarfed by the utility bill savings, economic activity, and jobs that it will deliver for hardworking New Yorkers. NYSEIA looks forward to continued partnership with our nonprofit coalition partners, the Legislature and the Governor’s Office to ensure that this impactful proposal is included in New York’s final FY26 budget.
