NEW: Tonight, WNYC Radio kicks off “AMERICA, ARE WE READY?” a new 5 episode election-focused national live call-in radio series, hosted by the inimitable Brian Lehrer. For 5 Wednesdays through the election (Oct 9-Nov 6), “America, Are We Ready?” will bring listeners together from every corner of the country and across divides to share their hopes and fears on some of the most pressing issues this election. “At a time when our public discourse is so fractious, public radio is one of the few – if not only – media outlets with reach into every community across our vast nation.,” said Brian Lehrer. “Whether you’re voting Republican, Democrat or remain undecided, the key issues in this election affect you personally – and the solutions being offered by each campaign couldn’t be more different. I’m looking forward to creating a space for Americans across every divide to come together to share their hopes, dreams and fears around the next election, and have a civil dialogue so lacking elsewhere.” For the first three call-ins, Brian will be joined by Marketplace’s Kimberly Adams for conversations focused on the biggest pocketbook issues facing Americans today - healthcare costs, housing costs and the care economy.? On October 30, Lehrer will be joined by On the Media’s Brooke Gladstone and Micah Loewinger for a look at how the media has been covering this election. On the final, post-election episode on November 6, Lehrer and political scientist and Fordham University professor Christina Greer, will take the pulse of where the country is the day after and consider where we go from here. The broadcast starts at 8pm ET on WNYC and on select public radio stations nationwide.

JUST ANNOUNCED: We’re delighted to announce New York Public Radio’s Centennial Gala on Tuesday, November 19, celebrating WNYC’s 100 years of service to New York. Seth Meyers will host, and the evening will feature musical performances by Grammy and two-time Tony Award nominee Shoshana Bean, jazz pianist Aaron Diehl, and the Young People's Chorus of New York City’s Chorus of New York City. The evening will honor the LEON LEVY FOUNDATION for their support in digitizing NYPR’s rich archives, and past and present members of our Board of Trustees for their incredible commitment and vision. This year’s Gala will also include a special ticketed after-party to give WNYC and WQXR fans another way to celebrate with us. The after-party will be hosted by filmmaker and author New York Nico, and will include an open bar, classic NYC treats, and music featuring a special DJ set by renowned hip hop artist and social activist Talib Kweli. JUST ANNOUNCED: We’re thrilled to share the complete schedule for WQXR Radio and Carnegie Hall’s 24/25 Season of the “Carnegie Hall Live” broadcast series, extending the classical music riches of New York with listeners across the city and around the globe. The season kicks off on Tuesday, October 8th with Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and featuring pianist Lang Lang and baritone Gustavo Castillo. Additional highlights include three Carnegie Hall debuts - the Czech Philharmonic, pianist Igor Levit and the London Symphony Orchestra - as well as longtime favorites including the Gateways Festival Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Fondation Les Arts Florissants - William Christie. It’s time for another WQXR Radio Classical Kids Fair! The Kids Fairs, which take place across the boroughs, are one of the ways WQXR is bringing the joy of classical music to the littlest generation of listeners. On Sunday October 6, we’re heading to the Queens Theatre for a day of live performances, an instrument “petting zoo,” dance and composition workshops, arts and crafts, and more. The team from Radiolab for Kids’ “Terrestrials” podcast for kids will also be on hand to share some of their original science tunes and fun facts! The Classical Kids Fair will take place from 12-4pm and admission is free, though reservations are recommended. The event is recommended for kids between the ages of 4-10.

NEW: Tomorrow at 10am, WQXR (105.9FM or online at wqxr.org) kicks off a new, 13-week?musical moment for kids and families! Hosted by flutist Emi Ferguson, “Once Upon a Composer” will tell a fabulous and true story about one of her favorite composers, followed by some of their music. Over the course of 13 weeks, we’ll hear about composers from the Baroque era through the 20th century, including Elisabeth de la Guerre, Johann Sebastian Bach, Florence Price and Toru Takemitsu.?
