Our mission is to provide financial assistance and a network of support to the families of New York City Police Officers

关于我们

The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund's mission is to support the families of New York City Police Officers, Firefighters, Port Authority Police, and EMS Personnel who have been killed in the line of duty. When these brave men and women make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our city, we believe it is our civic duty to support the families these heroes have left behind. Our mission is to reassure these families that we will never forget them or the sacrifice made by their loved ones. The New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund currently provides financial assistance, hosts special gatherings, and offers a network of support to approximately 600 families. The organization's goal is to raise enough funds to assist these families for the rest of their lives. Each year, they distribute over $4 million to the families of our fallen heroes.

  • Thank you to all who joined us for our 39th Annual Gala on Thursday, October 24th at the Cipriani Wall Street. We hosted 1,100 guests and raised over $4.2 million for our families of fallen first responders! Because of our amazing supporters, we were able to increase the annual stipend from $10,000 to $11,000 and provide an additional $500 to each family this year. A special thank you to Honoree Mike McCabe and the Honorary Chairs who made this event so memorable: Kristin Chenoweth, Roger Clemens, John Franco, Nick Mangold, Mark Messier, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. • Yesterday evening the Empire State Building beautifully lit up in the red and blue colors of Answer the Call, paying tribute to our fallen first responders and their families. We were grateful to have Colin Jost, actor, comedian, and writer from SNL, “flip the switch” on behalf of our organization. The lighting of the Empire State Building symbolizes our dedication to honoring and remembering the brave NYC first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This special lighting also represents Answer the Call's commitment to supporting the families left behind by these heroes. Photo credit: Empire State Realty Trust

Last week, I completed my summer internship with New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund. This nonprofit organization works to provide financial support to the family members of first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. My role consisted of conducting PR and social media outreach for the various events we put on. A key project I worked on this summer was gathering in-kind donations for Answer the Call’s 39th Annual Gala in October. I also conducted interviews with Team Answer the Call NYC Marathon runners and created write-ups to post on our blog. And lastly, a fun day for all was the 39th Annual Game & Family Day at Citi Field where we hosted the beneficiary families and guests. I want to thank Victoria Emerson for her support, as well as the entire Answer the Call team. I learned so much about nonprofit work, marketing, and PR outreach that I’ll carry with me into the upcoming school year.
