After six months of on-the-job training, 15 #NYCHAResidents have completed the Heating Plant Technician Trainee Program, gaining essential skills to maintain NYCHA’s heat and hot water systems. ?? “At NYCHA, we invest in training because a well-trained employee provides better service to our residents and the city at large, and strengthens our workforce. We’re grateful for public-private partnerships like this one between New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), City Tech, CUNY, Con Edison, and the Public Housing Community Fund, to create on-the-job training opportunities for our residents and future colleagues.” — Dr. Tischelle George, Ed.D., Vice President, Learning and Development #NYCHA #PublicHousing

关于我们
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America. NYCHA is committed to increasing opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA’s 326 public housing developments around the five boroughs, and another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program. To fulfill its vital mission and even better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies are helping NYCHA to address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of developments, to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.

ICYMI: Hylan Houses Residents Cast Their Tie-Breaking Votes New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) recently kicked off a runoff vote at Hylan Houses, giving residents the opportunity to decide between the New York City Public Housing #PreservationTrust and the #PACT program for the future of their homes. This tie-breaking vote follows the initial round in December, which resulted in an even split between the two options. ?? During this period, residents can vote online or by mail, with in-person voting available during the final 10 days. An independent third-party administrator is overseeing the election to ensure a fair and transparent process. ?? Both the Trust and PACT programs aim to bring critical repairs and improvements to Hylan Houses by transitioning the development to Project-Based Section 8, unlocking federal funding for renovations. “The tie-breaking runoff vote at Hylan Houses is a significant moment for residents,” said NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt. “This process ensures that residents can make their voices heard, and I encourage all eligible Hylan households to participate in this important decision.” ?? #NYCHA encourages all eligible residents to participate and make their voices heard. #NYCHAVotes #PublicHousing #AffordableHousing

?? Exciting news! The grant will support three cohorts of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Youth Tech Corps: Intergenerational Connections program. This initiative helps #NYCHAYouth and adult resident leaders bridge the digital divide through hands-on tech training. The three cohorts selected to participate in the Public Housing Community Fund’s NYCHA Youth Tech Corps program include Polo Grounds Houses in Harlem, Richmond Terrace in Staten Island and Pomonok Houses in Queens. The Public Housing Community Fund’s 10-week program pairs NYCHA youth, ages 16 to 24, with adult resident leaders to understand the technology needs in public housing developments and develop plans to address these needs. Youth improve their technology skills through hands-on learning, advance their understanding of technology, and explore potential career paths. They work directly with resident association leaders to solve community issues through technology, including social media, AI, electronic flyers, online surveys, and website development. In addition to digital education, the Spectrum Digital Education grant allows the Fund to provide laptops, food, and financial stipends to each participant. ??
