Wanted to give an overall update on the GTBA- Georgia’s Rural Telephone and Broadband Association companies and their communities after Hurricane Helene and what will go down in Georgia history as one of the worst storms. The good news first: A good many of our members were in the hardest hit areas in Southeast Georgia! Their communities are resilient and coming together in the aftermath to clean up HUGE messes in their areas. But, as all our members do, the companies in those areas build networks that are redundant and resilient to the area they live in. Thankfully most of their networks were buried and if customers have power they are able to communicate with the world. However customers without power now will not be able to utilize their home Internet until power is restored. The bad news: These communities and areas have been hit HARD with much of the power infrastructure left to be rebuilt and we are assisting where we can and staying out of their way where we can’t. There have been a few instances of tandems or routes by non GTBA members down that isolated and currently isolating a few areas, but over all the communications for our members customers are intact. Our biggest issues so far have been keep generators running to keep 911 and customers who have power up and connected. We know in times of storms or any crisis people want to communicate their safety and needs. Above all of our work, we are praying first for the families affected, for the linemen working to restore critical services and first responders keeping communities safe during this difficult time!! We cannot say enough about how hard these crews are working and how hard our members employees are working to keep people connected and literally turn the lights back on so people can rebuild! South Georgia needs people’s prayers as well as physically coordinated boots on the ground effort in the basic needs! We are so proud that our members pull together to help each other and their communities in times of need and know all Georgians are plugging in to help. A saying we use a lot is we are stronger together and that is what Georgia is stronger together!! GTBA-Georgia's Rural Telephone & Broadband Association

Co-ops helping co-ops! We’re proud to see our cooperative members come together during difficult times and help one another. Randolph Communications has joined the recovery efforts in the western part of the state, sending crews to assist fellow co-op member SkyLine / SkyBest in repairing infrastructure destroyed by Hurricane Helene. FOCUS Broadband is also continuing to send crews to help in the recovery. Their dedication and teamwork are a testament to the cooperative spirit, and we’re grateful for their contribution in helping these communities rebuild. We continue to keep our western co-op members and everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene in our thoughts as they recover from the devastating impacts on their communities. Edward Hinson, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at SkyLine SkyBest, recently provided an update on how their cooperative is addressing the extensive damage of their infrastructure and shared insights into the current situation many are facing in the western part of the state. “Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, and South Carolina are the latest states to receive approvals for their Initial Proposals for the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program, bringing the tally up to 48 approvals. The Fiber Broadband Association congratulates these four newly approved states for being able to officially request access to funding and begin utilizing BEAD funds. We would also like to congratulate the NTIA for its continued swiftness in approving these proposals, furthering the ‘Internet for All’ initiative.” – Gary Bolton, President & CEO, Fiber Broadband Association
