I ALWAYS HAD THIS FEELING—LIKE THERE WAS SOMETHING MORE I WAS MEANT TO DO. For years, I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I felt that inner ache. I ALWAYS SENSED THERE WAS SOMETHING MORE I WAS BORN TO DO…. I didn’t know what it was consciously. It was just a gnawing, inner ache that I couldn’t get rid of. And over the years, I’ve noticed that I had plenty of company with that problem. So where does that ache come from? Why does it infect so many of us? Part of it is that we are trained by the institutions we grew up with which have fed us false information and set up a fake picture of where to find true happiness. * How many of us have been told that to get rid of that ache of dissatisfaction, we need to change our physical bodies, appearance, style and fashion? * What about the push into careers that are not really what we are called to do, which we may be ill-prepared for, or which suck the joy from our soul? * And then there is the fake promise of college: come and spend tens of thousands of dollars, get a degree and then get higher degrees; that’s the way you get good jobs and live a happy life of prosperity and joy, forever and ever, Amen. Oh, and if you have to borrow to pay for that, don’t worry—you’ll make more than enough to cover that debt when you graduate and get that good job. * Many of us were sold on the so-called “American dream” that goes something like this: marriage, two kids, a comfortable house with a picket fence and great backyard, a dog or cat, work at a job until you are 67, retire and live happily ever after off the savings and Social Security checks waiting for you. It turns out that for a whole lot of us, we buy into the myths and end up climbing a ladder leaning against the wrong wall! The problem is that after investing in these myths, most people feel like they’ve been left holding an empty bag. They feel the ache they can’t get rid of growing inside. Break free!
