Centering Students. Advancing Equity.

关于我们

New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit organization. Our vision is that every student from preschool through high school, deserves an excellent and equitable education that empowers them to reach their full potential in classrooms, communities, and beyond. Our mission is to disrupt the predictability of educational inequities for systemically underserved students by accelerating educator effectiveness. Founded by teachers in 1998, NTC builds capacity within district partners to drive student learning, educator effectiveness, and leadership development. We do this by providing PreK-12 educators with evidence-based skills and supports needed to create optimal learning environments that accelerate students’ academic and social-emotional success, focusing specifically focusing on the whole-child.

How can we expect students with learning differences and diverse needs to succeed when the new teachers who support them aren’t receiving the support they desperately need? ?? Only 25% of new special education teachers report feeling well-prepared to address the needs of students with learning differences (National Center for Education Statistics, 2020) ?? Nearly 45% of new special education teachers leave the profession within their first five years (Sutcher, Darling-Hammond, & Carver-Thomas, Learning Policy Institute, 2019) Join us on December 4 at 1:00 pm PT/4:00 pm ET to learn how induction leaders from Hawaii DOE and Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (Minnesota) are leveraging mentoring and coaching to: ?? Enhance special education teacher effectiveness and self-efficacy ?? Embrace challenges as opportunities to build scaffolds of support ?? Build responsive mentoring and induction to meet special education’s unique needs Register now: https://lnkd.in/gfXi55RW #specialeducation #mentoring #coaching #NewTeacherCenter

"Excellence is not a destination, it is a continuous journey that never ends!" ~Brian Tracy~

I count it an honor and privilege to be a speaker at #BMEC2024 this year. The theme is “Deacons For Our Future: DreamKeepers Yesterday, Today, and Forever”. My daddy has served as a Deacon in our church ever since I was a little girl. I have watched him serve members of the community in beautiful ways. The role of the deacon was intentional, it was to meet the needs of societal inequities that were plaguing the early church…thinking about that significance in today’s society, we need servant leaders of all kinds to band together to supporting the health and well being of our community. I am following my father’s footsteps…I am truly humbled!

It’s not complicated. A quality leader or manager is a proven difference-maker — across any industry — for why someone is more willing to stay in their job. The same is true for teachers, especially brand-new ones. ?? 90% of new teachers cite principal support as a top factor in job satisfaction: When principals actively support new teachers, it contributes significantly to their morale, helping them stay committed and engaged in the classroom (National Center for Education Statistics, 2023). Great schools cannot exist without great school leaders. They drive the conditions that enable engaging, quality teaching and learning. Learn more: https://ow.ly/LSPw50TZzFi

Navigating a curriculum change across Tennessee’s diverse districts presented complex challenges, with no standardized playbook to guide stakeholders through geographic isolation, resource constraints, and the heavy demands on school leaders. To support the shift in the state’s math curriculum, we partnered with seven districts to create a stakeholder-led vision to foster high-quality instruction. Our work focused on three key areas: ?? Engaging district leaders in data-driven, high-collaboration strategies ?? Building and strengthening responsive coaching teams to navigate changes ?? Leveraging learning networks to share knowledge and perspectives As Tennessee districts pave the way for implementation success, they are prioritizing preparation, enhancing coach support, and committing to continuous improvement in student engagement as key indicators of what’s working. November marks #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, a time to honor the rich history, diverse cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Educators are responsible for ensuring that our classrooms celebrate the diversity of our students and provide them with culturally relevant learning experiences. NTC's research-backed Optimal Learning Environment framework supports instructional strategies for diversity and learner variability alongside cultural competence. Our coaching approach helps teachers, especially new ones, do just that by: ?? Facilitating teachers’ thinking and problem-solving to individual needs and classroom challenges ?? Supporting networks to connect and share best practices ?? Building teacher self-efficacy to support student agency and productive struggle in the classroom By investing in holistic induction, new teachers develop the skills and knowledge they need to create culturally relevant and affirming learning environments for all students.
