  • “Rich in history and natural beauty, New Mexico is also a great place to earn a college degree. That’s because the state offers tuition-free college for New Mexico residents attending a public institution. As the first state to offer free college tuition for all residents, New Mexico stands out for its commitment to higher education.” https://lnkd.in/gC7CW_Ag

New Mexico has become a leader in supporting families with two-generation policies—that is, policies that support parents and children. The New Mexico College Student Experience study was designed to provide higher education administrators and policymakers with essential data to better support parents who are students. Santa Fe Community College's Catron Allred, Executive Director of the SFCC Early Childhood Center of Excellence, hosted a launch of a new report based on a survey of the 9 Independent Community Colleges in New Mexico. The research team administered the New Mexico College Student Experience Survey to more than 3,000 students—including more than 1,000 pregnant or parenting students with children under age 18—across nine higher education institutions in New Mexico during the 2024 spring semester. To read the full report, click the link below. ?? Congratulations to the team and to HEI staff and faculty across the state who work to create welcoming campus environments for parents and children!

What we measure, we value. In New Mexico, we value student success across HEIs in the state, which is why I am happy to welcome Complete College America and higher education professionals from across the state to CCA Data Days: Better Data for Better Decisions hosted by CNM Workforce, a part of CCA Accelerator. Eight HEIs in NM are a part of the CCA Accelerator, an ambitious nationwide initiative to improve student success and close gaps in college access and completion. With funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CCA will work with eleven state agencies - including NM - over the next three years to implement research-based practices designed to dramatically increase college completion on a statewide scale.
