It began as "Women's History Week" in 1978 in Santa Rosa, California. The week of March 8th was chosen to coincide with International Women's Day. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring National Women's History Week. By 1987, Congress had designated the entire month of March as National Women's History Month. ? To recognize and celebrate the vital role of women in American history. ? To raise awareness of women's contributions in various fields, including science, politics, arts, and literature. ? To promote the study of women's history in schools and communities. ? The National Women's History Alliance plays a significant role in promoting and coordinating Women's History Month. They also select the yearly theme. ? Throughout March, various events and activities are held across the United States, including: Educational programs in schools and universities. Exhibitions and displays in museums and libraries. Community events and celebrations. Please share stories of women who made an impact in your life, or who influenced you in some way #NationalWomensMonth

I was excite to be a part of this! We got to see this bill passed in the House, it moves to Senate Finance. House Bill 167- Higher Ed. Payment for Certain Tests This bill would provide free high school equivalency tests for New Mexico residents. With this bill, any New Mexico resident who does not already have a high school diploma (HSD) or a high school equivalency (HSE), and who has shown themselves ready to take an HSE test by passing an (also free) practice test, would be able to make an appointment in an approved testing center and walk in to take the test without paying the test publisher or any associated testing center fees. Exam cost is $145. This bill would cover the entire cost for New Mexicans who need to take the test. The current limited ad-hoc voucher system is difficult to access, creating unnecessary barriers for test-takers and a significant administrative burden for NMHED-AE. New Mexico is 47th in the nation for the number of adults with a high school diploma (HSD) or high school equivalency (HSE). (HSE used to be called GED, but the GED is just one of the two tests approved for use in NM. The other is HiSET.) The bill carries a $2m appropriation. It is a priority of NMHED. The Constitution of New Mexico provides for a free, high-quality education for all young people. This bill helps extend this to all New Mexicans, including those who, due to life circumstances, were not able to complete their HSD in the typical amount of time, but who still want the opportunity to move ahead in life and access family-sustaining careers. #nmleg #HB167 # adulteducationmatters #weareadulted #oursuccessesareeverywhere #propelnm #nmaea #NMHED

On Sunday, February 9th, Jamie Trujillo and Leah Ellis sat down with Generation Justice, KUNM.ORG 89.9FM, to discuss adult education in New Mexico as well as the need for support and recognition from #nmleg If you’d like to listen to the full show or share it on your website, here is the link: https://lnkd.in/gZYSnysb GJ is a multiracial, multicultural project that trains youth to harness the power of community and raise critical consciousness through leadership development, civic engagement, media production and narrative shift in the areas that most impact New Mexicans- racial justice, health, education, early childhood development, and economic security. GJ’s mission is to inspire youth to become multidimensional leaders who are committed to social transformation. In New Mexico, Generation Justice has been recognized as the premier youth media and leadership group, and locally and nationally, has been the recipient of numerous awards. #nmleg #NMHED #propelnm #AdultEducationMatters #educatenewmexico #inglescomosegundalengua #weareadulted #oursuccessesareeverywhere #nmaea

I'm thrilled to share that #COABE and #EducateAndElevate are recognizing the incredible work of the New Mexico Adult Education Association and our student ambassador training! Today, I celebrate each and every one of these remarkable individuals. These students have overcome extraordinary challenges, including struggles with sobriety, suicide, homelessness, disabilities, family tragedies, natural disasters, and language and cultural barriers. Despite these obstacles, they've shown up, committed to earning their high school equivalency and building brighter futures for themselves and their families. They've bravely shared their stories with vulnerability and courage, fostering an atmosphere of trust and respect. Through tears and trembling voices, they're rewriting their narratives and embarking on new adventures. This is why I'm so passionate about adult education. This is why we need to do more. This is why I'm here. To witness and support their resilience and transformation is truly inspiring. #weareadulteducation #oursuccessesareeverywhere #adulteducationmatters

Back in February, we released an episode where Nadia and I shared how we got into adult education. Now, we would love to hear your stories! Just like every adult learner's story is different, so is the story of every practitioner, and we want to give you the opportunity to share your career journey on an episode of Connect with Adult Ed that will be released in June. Tell us how you got into the field and what being a practitioner means to you. You can also share your vision for the future of the field. Please send in your story via an audio recording, video recording, or written piece. If you send a video, the video will be included on our YouTube channel and social media unless you ask us just to include the audio. If you send us a written submission, Nadia or I will read your submission for the episode. We will share your first name and program name unless you would like to remain anonymous. Just let us know if that is the case! You can send your submissions to: [email protected] [email protected] Nadia and I look forward to receiving your submissions.
