After 9 months of planning, the ISC2 New Jersey Chapter is proud to announce the launch of its first internship program, NJ Cyber Guardians! This program is designed to help mitigate the problem that both students and career transitioners have when it comes to gaining real cybersecurity work experience before landing their first cybersecurity job. Our interns will be primarily learning how to perform administrative and technical security assessments for local nonprofits. We are kicking off this program late October and the two initial interns will be given 120 hours worth of true work experience mixed with independent study. After this initial cohort is completed, we will take on more interns to continue providing a chance for members to gain the necessary work experience to obtain an entry level position in cybersecurity. If you know of any small nonprofits that might benefit from our free cybersecurity assessment program, please DM me. Last year I went to my first Newark Tech Week, met Citi Medina and told him about trying to bring the Code and Coffee tech meetup to New Jersey. He told me to "bring it home" to EqualSpace Sharespace & Incubator right here in Newark. It's incredible that one year later we have built an amazing partnership, and New Jersey Code and Coffee will be having our own networking mixer, "Code and Cocktails", on 10/15 as part of this year's Newark Tech Week. I was at this event yesterday and it was amazing! So many friendly and knowledgeable people! I left with a lot of new information, and confidence that I'm moving in the right direction to build my skills. Nice space too. I'm not the entrepreneurial type, but if you are and find most rented offices too sterile/impersonal, this one was cozy and comfortable.
