The Surveyor's Association of West Jersey would like to invite you to the next Bucks Chapter of PSLS meeting, March 20th at the Bucks County Technical High School (610 Wistar Road, Fairless Hills PA). The meeting will start at 6 pm. All students from the program will be in attendance (around 45 students). The Bucks Chapter will supply food and drinks (FREE TO ALL), but we will have a box for donations to the Chapter which would be used to provide scholarships to 2 students that will be presented at their Awards Assembly at the end of the year. The event will include time to network with the students (many will have resumes for co-op or summer work) , dinner, presentations by Shaheed Smith, PLS on his experiences starting his own firm (SAS Geospatial-celebrating 10 year Anniversary) and Frank Lenik, PLS on old survey equipment with items on display from his personal collection. Doug Bennet (the Instructor for the program) will give a tour of the classroom area and describe what has been going on with the program (quite impressive). This is a great way to celebrate Surveyors Week. We may also have a few vendor displays, etc If you have company marketing materials and/or business cards, you want to bring; we will have a table where your information can be displayed. Please let me know ahead of time if you are bringing anything so we can arrange to have space for everything We are hoping for a good turnout of Surveyors with the hopes of networking with the students for co-op opportunities and steering them toward field and office positions within the surveying industry at graduation. Members of the Surveyors Historical Society recently visited the southwestern corner of Pennsylvania, where the Mason-Dixon Line terminates at its intersection with the north-south boundary between West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The current monument was set in 1883 during an official retracement survey under the direction of Cephas Sinclair of the United States Coast & Geodetic Survey (now known as the National Geodetic Survey). The monument's carefully determined position on a steep slope in a remote wooded area stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of surveyors in an era before modern measurement technology.
