Trauma doesn’t just affect individuals—it can ripple across generations. Intergenerational trauma suggests that extreme stress may leave lasting imprints, but could these changes also be adaptive? The March American Psychiatric Association course of the month examines the biological and emotional impact of trauma across generations, exploring how resilience can counteract its effects. 关于我们
The New Jersey Psychiatric Association (NJPA) was founded in 1935. It is the American Psychiatric Association (APA) District Branch for the State of New Jersey, and has over 850 members. NJPA is therefore the official voice of organized psychiatry in New Jersey, and participates, through its delegates to the APA Assembly, in the determination of APA official actions. NJPA has five regional chapters (Central, Northern, Ocean-Monmouth, Southern and Tri-County) and the Residents' Chapter for members-in-training (physicians in psychiatry residency training programs). VISION STATEMENT The New Jersey Psychiatric Association strives to support its members in the compassionate and ethical delivery of the most current, evidence-based, empirically validated psychiatric care. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association is to serve its members’ professional practice needs, including delivering essential practice management tools and continuing education programs; fostering physician wellness as the foundation of successful practice; educating the public and New Jersey’s lawmakers on the science of psychiatry; supporting the development of NJ psychiatrists in training; promoting the professional standards of psychiatric care; and advocating to protect the interests of patients and their families.

New research highlights the complex role of religiosity and spirituality in adolescent suicidality. A systematic review, co-authored by NJPA members Tai West, MD, JD, RYT and Adam Sagot, D.O. FAPA, analyzed 61 studies with over 340,000 participants. Findings reveal that in most cases, religiosity and spirituality serve as protective factors against suicidality, though effects vary among at-risk groups. A recent study published in JAMA Network Open demonstrates the financial benefits of employer-sponsored behavioral health programs. The research found that for every $100 invested in behavioral health benefits, medical claims costs were reduced by $190. This return on investment underscores the value of expanding access to behavioral health services, particularly for individuals with high-cost medical conditions.
