关于我们
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) began in 1986 as just a grand plan, a belief voiced by then-Governor Thomas H. Kean that New Jersey deserved its own world-class performing arts center. Ultimately it was decided there was no better place for a Jersey arts center to take root than in Downtown Newark; a building that would not only host the world’s greatest performers, but also act as the catalyst for revitalizing the state’s largest city. Since its opening season in 1997, NJPAC has attracted nearly 9 million patrons, plus 1.6 million children and their families. The Arts Center's array of more than 500 unique events each season, held on and off campus, serves New Jersey’s rich diversity of nationalities and ethnicities. Performers who have appeared in the acoustically superb, 2,800-seat Prudential Hall include Joshua Bell, El Gran Combo, Aretha Franklin, Audra McDonald, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Bonnie Raitt, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Stephen Colbert, Jerry Seinfeld, and Earth, Wind & Fire, among many others. Each year, NJPAC's Arts Education Department, one of the largest in the country, engages almost 80,000 public school children via arts learning initiatives in schools, in NJPAC conservatory, and on its stages. The Arts Center has established itself as a home for broadcast by networks including BET, HBO, Comedy Central, PBS and NBC. NJPAC provides forums for convening New Jersey’s citizenry to discuss significant issues of the day and “symbolizes Newark’s cultural renaissance” (Forbes magazine).

Today is #SocialPrescribingDay! ArtsRx is NJPAC's social prescribing program, and the only one in the nation with an insurance provider as a key partner. Social prescribing enables health professionals to formally prescribe non-clinical community activities— including the arts— to improve patient health. Social prescribing is designed to address social determinants of health, including social connection. In one year of our program, we reached incredible heights: ?? 687 activities prescribed ?? $46,608.20 contributed to the arts in Essex County ?? 17 local organizations supported Learn more about how NJPAC is committed to using the arts to promote health equity and sign up to stay informed at https://brnw.ch/21wRr0n

Such a great day showcasing talented filmmakers!
Congratulations to my community for turning their visions into reality and sharing their art with us! It was an honor to support such talented artists and see the city we love through the lenses of their films. A huge shoutout to Charles, Tiana, and Liv for the incredible work you do in showcasing the beauty and complexity of this city. The ArtxChange at NJPAC brought us 8 short films from 8 producers, each offering a unique perspective on life that was groundbreaking, thought-provoking, joyful, educational, and inspiring. If you ever see another flyer for this event, RSVP IMMEDIATELY! There’s no better way to connect with your city than by experiencing the art and history within it. #newarkarts #community #newarknj

Our PROPS (People Recognizing Other People's Success) awards are a peer recognition program, which allows our staff to recognize their peers for going above and beyond the call of duty. Today we highlight: Daniel Silverstein Dan did a superb job ensuring that the Milt Hinton camp ran smoothly. When Montclair State staff passed off work that fell within their purview to Dan, he attacked it without blinking an eye. Even after his scheduled hours on the MSU campus, Dan stuck around most days to help with the bus shuttle and student dismissal. The responsibilty of transporting faculty and artists, in his own vehicle, from one end of campus to the other, fell upon Dan. Dan was there from the beginning advancements, through the trials in the middle, and all the way to the end; the entire time dealing, working with, and accommodating the folks from the MHI. Dan was there to fill in all the cracks, otherwise details would have fallen through. Great job, Dan!
