Such an incredible moment I shared with my community and family. The members of the #NewAmericanLeaders Elected Officials Network took on New York City for our first Electeds Site Visit (ESV)! ??Our ESVs are designed to allow for crucial in-person time with other?#NALpistas?to learn about current issues and policy solutions that impact New American communities. From visiting important sites like Ellis Island to connecting with our friends at National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) and New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) and hearing firsthand stories from the people supporting recent arrivals to New York City, we were reminded of the importance of advocating for and advancing immigrants and their rights. ? NICE recently welcomed the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Labor?and State Senator?Jessica Ramos??to witness firsthand the challenges and triumphs experienced by long-time and new immigrant New Yorkers on Roosevelt Avenue. This avenue is more than just a street; it symbolizes hope and community for countless immigrants striving for a better life in New York.? Our Executive Director, Nilbia Coyote said “At NICE, we recognize the difficulties of entering the workforce. That’s why we’re promoting the Apprenticeship for Life and Work program, to help immigrants integrate into the workforce prepared and dignified.”
