Authenticity is a much talked about quality in the natural products industry but one that’s also all too often missing from enterprises large and small. Michael Bush, who led Ganeden through the development of its probiotic juggernaut BC30 and now advises companies via GrowthWays Partners, LLC, decided to dive into authenticity to see why and how it matters in starting and running companies. The result was “Guardrailing: Authentically Guide Your Natural Products Company from Spark to Sale.” We talked to him about the book and what he discovered in the act of writing it. In 1999, half a century after Diestel Turkey Ranch began farming turkeys in California, the business embraced organic. Ever since, Diestel has stocked natural grocery retailers with organic birds. Now, 25 years after the pivotal decision to go organic, the company is raising some turkeys that champion another seal: regenerative agriculture certification from Regenified?. And according to a new study, that seal highlights more than Diestel’s soil-enlivening, climate-friendly agricultural practices. The turkeys raised using regenerative agriculture methods provide higher nutrient density than conventional turkeys. The study, conducted by Utah State University’s Center for Human Nutrition Studies, found that compared to conventional turkeys, Diestel's regenerative certified birds showed higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids; a better omega-6 to omega-3 ratio; increased levels of zinc, phytochemicals, vitamins B3 and B12. What if your vegetable oil source could offer more stability and a smaller environmental footprint? American palm oil (Ampo) can produce up to 10 times more oil per acre compared to seed oils like soy and canola. Ampo’s continuous harvesting schedule ensures year-round production, making it a more reliable oil source for companies. As the global demand for vegetable oils continues to grow, American palm oil is setting a new standard in sustainability and functionality. With enhanced stability, a longer fry life and a smaller environmental footprint, @daabon’s Ampo is perfect for companies looking to replace less stable seed oils without sacrificing performance. https://lnkd.in/gt_hGcPg #Paid #Sustainability #PalmOil #AmericanPalmOil #VegetableOils #SustainableAgriculture #FunctionalFoods #GreenBusiness

The fall and winter holidays represent some of the busiest times of the year for food retail. Most grocery stores spend weeks or even months gearing up for the rushes that Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and even New Years Eve can bring. By this point, with Turkey Day less than a week away, most independent natural products retailers are probably as prepared for this holiday as they can be. Still, a little last-minute intel on shopper sentiments, dinner menus and projected purchases never hurts. FMI- The Food Industry Association provides this and more in U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends: Holiday Season 2024. FMI’s latest report presents data captured from 1,577 consumers nationwide in late September and early October. The survey results reveal how shoppers plan to celebrate the upcoming fall and winter holidays, how they intend to grocery shop and which foods, beverages and other items they expect to buy. In 1863, Dr. James C. Jackson crumbled baked graham flour and bran into milk to make a nourishing, healthy breakfast for patients at his Dansville, New York-based health resort, “Our Home on the Hillside” (a.k.a. the Jackson Sanatorium). He called this amalgam of whole grains “granula.” Fast forward more than 160 years and granola is ubiquitous in the natural food market. Arguably the O.G. healthy food product, granola has its own section—sometimes an entire aisle—at retail. It has a well-established bulk market. And recent innovations allow consumers following special diets, whether grain-free, paleo or sugar-free, to enjoy this traditional breakfast staple as a snack, meal, salad topper and even an indulgent permissible dessert, thanks to its whole grains, nuts and better-for-you sweeteners. Such dynamism in the granola category has led to tremendous market growth. According to a study by Future Market Insights, Inc., the global granola industry is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 4.5% from 2023 to 2033. And at the end of 2022, Acumen Research and Consulting found the worldwide granola market was valued at $8.2 billion. Supplements have no shortage of champions espousing beliefs that would be labeled “fringe” by mainstream consumers, but when such a champion gains political prominence—as seems set to occur if?Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is named secretary of Health and Human Services—it might be time to question whether such controversial voices pose a risk to the growing acceptance of supplements. There is a voice-in-the-wilderness quality to an outspoken supplements industry supporter like?Joseph Mercola?questioning vaccines, but to have Kennedy Jr. overseeing agencies that include the U.S. Food and Drug Administration could insert supplements into the culture wars in a way that we have not seen before and push them closer to the realm of fringe beliefs in the eyes of some consumers.
