As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we want to highlight some of the women championing efforts to protect our democracy, defend our fundamental freedoms, and provide the visionary leadership we need in our current moment. Today, we recognize Chris Melody Fields Figueredo of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center for her leadership, courage, and determination. Thank you for all you do!

As we kick off #WomensHistoryMonth, check out our very own Morgan Snyder's recent article in Rights of Equality addressing what we need to do to finally elect the nation's first woman president. "On the heels of the 2024 presidential election loss, we must keep fighting so that one day we will see a woman in the Oval Office. How? We can get more Democratic women to run for office. We can support their campaigns by donating, volunteering, and working for them. And when the next qualified woman runs for president, we do everything we can to elect them." Always happy to be on the same page as JB Pritzker, one of the few Dems who I believe is messaging this moment well. We can't give up on the argument that Trump is taking away democracy; we just need to make it more accessible, to show how it impacts people's day to day lives. From The Hill: Democratic strategist Christy Setzer backed that sentiment, saying “Democrats have to communicate that it really just means a loss of control” in their messaging to the public.? “Your vote doesn’t matter. Your government makes every decision for you. Your job is to line Donald Trump’s and Elon Musk’s pockets, and you get nothing in return,” Setzer said of how Democrats should drive the narrative on democracy.

We're a finalist for the 2025 Campaigns & Elections Reed Award for BEST PUBLIC AFFAIRS CAMPAIGN for our work with Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom! ?? ?? Our collective efforts on the victorious Amendment 79 ensured that Coloradans’ reproductive freedoms were enshrined into the Colorado State Constitution. We could not be prouder of the work we accomplished together. Maybe we’ll see some of y’all in Austin?!? ?? ??

We have been proud to work with The Bail Project in recent months as they continue to address the systemic inequalities in our bail system, which too often targets Black Americans. As we continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, we also remain keenly aware of the long road to achieving racial equality. Robert Brown's latest op-ed in Common Dreams speaks to this moment. CURRENT MOOD: “Democratic leadership acts like it’s permanently 2006, a year when, yes, we took back the Senate, but also before the Republican Party found a cult leader and lost its collective minds,” Democratic strategist Christy Setzer said. “We don’t live in that world anymore. We have a lifelong conman and convicted felon in the Oval Office who tries every day to turn this country into a dictatorship; let’s start acting like it. “That means you can’t be mad about Trump trying to freeze government spending in the morning, and vote for his Treasury secretary — who will destroy the economy — in the afternoon,” Setzer added. “Stop helping Trump.”

We had SUCH a great time on Wednesday co-hosting a happy hour for young comms professionals here in DC with The Communications Network! We mixed. We mingled. We even organized a scavenger hunt to help break the ice. It was a BLAST. The event was a great way to provide a space for young comms professionals to find valuable mentorship opportunities--something we cherish here at New Heights. We can't wait to do it again!??? ??

At New Heights Communications, we take our internship program -- and our interns -- seriously, giving them hands-on client work, and helping them leave us with a portfolio to be proud of. (And sometimes, they never leave: at one point, half of our staff was made up of former interns.) Thanks for everything, Emma!
Public Citizen & Immigration Lab Intern @ American University studying global perspectives and marketing for social impact
