A group of our art teachers and myself will be presenting at the Texas Arts Educators Association (TAEA) conference next week in Galveston. Visual arts really has launched into orbit the past few years with New Braunfels Independent School District bringing back art teachers at the elementary level and receiving District of Distention from TAEA. When I look at this picture, I see Wade Ivy in the top left, smiling because he hears community members, parents, and students talking with New Braunfels Independent School District educators about future-ready schools. Wade loves being a principal supervisor and district leader, so hearing a deep discussion on instructional philosophy excited him. This picture came from a strategic planning session with Education Elements. When I first reviewed the project plan with the NBISD team and showed all the community engagement touchpoints, Wade was a bit nervous because community-driven planning can be scary and leave a very qualified district leader feeling vulnerable. But he trusted the process, and after seeing this picture and watching Wade during our session today as we put the finishing touches on the plan before it goes to the Board next week, I think one skeptic turned believer. Both New Braunfels High School and Long Creek High School competed at the UIL Region 12 Marching Competition at Heroes Stadium in North East ISD, earning "Superior" ratings and advancing to their UIL Area Marching Contests! NBHS will be heading to the UIL 5A Area D Marching Contest at Pfield Stadium in Pflugerville ISD on October 26th. LCHS will compete at the UIL 4A Area E Marching Contest at Phil Danaher Stadium in Calallen ISD on November 2nd. "Appreciate the Silent Victories" - Bob Floyd, Retired TMEA Executive Director Opening new schools are not for the faint of heart. However, Long Creek HS Marching Band had their first competition and won the 1A division at BOA San Marcos at Texas State University. The program showed their appreciation to the NBISD Fine Arts department by presenting a medal that the students also received for winning their division. To me - this medal represents the 2 years of work that went into getting the Long Creek Fine Arts department ready for this year. We aren't done yet - but we need to appreciate the silent victories.

IN THE NEWS: Our founder, Maurice Fischer was featured in the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung as a 'Living Legend' for his contributions to the city and region. "Maurice and his family have supported dozens of civic organizations and local school activities in their hometown, such as the Sophienburg Museum and Archives, the Heritage Society, and the New Braunfels Conservation Society.
