When we vote, we can advocate for resources and services that impact our health and our community's health! In our latest blog, we celebrate Civic Health Month and explain the significant connection between voting and healthier communities.

Our health care system is in crisis, and immediate action is needed! That’s why we proudly support Yes on Prop 35. With Prop 35, we can secure essential funding and improve health care access for millions, without raising taxes. Stand with us in supporting this vital initiative to improve our health care system. Yesterday, NEVHC was honored to participate in a fascinating panel held by the Immigrant Health Access Task Force of the California Community Foundation. After the ending of the public health emergency in May of last year, LA County began a massive redetermination process to renew or terminate coverage for over 4 million people. Christopher Gomez, an NEVHC Outreach and Enrollment Manager, spoke about the challenges of this Medi-Cal unwinding process and where support is still needed.

We had such a great time at San Fernando Valley Pride last weekend! We came together as a community and showed our support for all of the LGBTQ+ people in the Valley. ?? Our NEVHC staff, family and friends joined the march down Van Nuys Boulevard, waving flags and encouraging everyone to vote so our voices continue to be heard! After, we handed out crucial health information at the resource fair. Thank you to all who joined us and to Caroline Menjivar, Somos Familia Valle, and Mayor Karen Bass for holding such a fun and important event! ?????

Governor Newsom released a revised budget proposal for the 2024-2025 fiscal year which includes several proposed cuts affecting community health centers (CHCs). Although cuts are inevitable for the state to balance its budget, if the legislature passes the Governor’s proposal, CHCs like NEVHC will be impacted. One of the reductions includes decreasing the Community Health Outreach Initiative (CHOI). Without this funding, patients would be left with no assistance to maintain their healthcare coverage. Have you heard about NEVHC's 'I Support You' (ISU) campaign? It began as a fashion show fundraiser in 1997 and has evolved into an annual campaign that funds vital patient programs. ISU addresses social determinants of health like children’s literacy and hygiene for the unhoused. Check out this blog to learn more about ISU and its history!?
