Last Friday, I had the honor and privilege of speaking at the 5th annual #LaunchRuralNevada event in City of Elko, where startups and small business owners from rural Nevada gathered to connect, learn, and grow. This incredible event provided invaluable resources including mentorship, access to capital, and connections with entrepreneurial support organizations across the state. This year’s hybrid format made it accessible to even more participants, with local in-person and online participation. The competition highlighted the innovative spirit of women entrepreneurs in rural Nevada with two categories: ??Youth Division: Grades 8–12 from rural Nevada school districts ??Congratulations to Cassidy Runnion, owner of Rugged Rider, for winning! ??Adult Division: 18+ residing in rural Nevada ??Congratulations to Bridgett Green, owner of Pour Decisions, winning! A special thank you to Maggie Saling with StartUpNV and Sheldon Mudd with Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority for the invitation and opportunity to share how Nevada Office of Small Business Advocacy supports small businesses across the state. By reducing the hours required for training, lowering fees, allowing reciprocity for licensed professionals between states, and eliminating unnecessary exams, we can open opportunities for more people to start their own businesses. I had an incredible week during Reno Startup Week, and the cherry on top was seeing myself and the Nevada Office of Small Business Advocacy included in this edition’s #RenoStartupDeck created by Matthew McIver and his team at Commence Studio. It’s such an honor to be recognized alongside other incredible leaders and organizations. The Reno Startup Deck was built on a powerful belief: “At the heart of every successful community lies a simple, powerful idea: belief. We believe in the transformative power of entrepreneurship – not just as a means to create businesses, but as a way to change lives and build communities.” This resonates with me because everyone has the inherent right to innovate and create, and we’re working to make entrepreneurship accessible to all, dismantling barriers, and opening up opportunities.
