Exciting news in the fight against Parkinson's disease! ?? ?? Parkinson's disease is complex, with fluctuating and diverse symptoms that can be tough to monitor and treat. Sensor-based digital health technologies (sDHTs) are game-changers, enabling remote and frequent symptom measurement to inform early intervention, innovative treatments, and improved patient outcomes. ?? With support from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Critical Path Institute (C-Path)'s Critical Path for Parkinson's consortium, and Dr. Anat Mirelman, at Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) we've significantly expanded our open-access Library of Digital Measurement Products to include data for Parkinson’s disease (PD). ?? It now features 200+ rows of evidence for 94 unique digital solutions for PD, easily searchable by various criteria such as health concept, outcome measured, technology type, form factor, and performance reported. This library reflects: ? Peer-reviewed evidence from 2020-present ? Outcomes that reflect meaningful aspects of health for patients ? Verification, analytical validation, clinical validation, or usability validation ? Our commitment to open access and community supported resources that accelerate research and move medicine forward. In looking at this landscape for Parkinson's, it’s immediately clear that: ?? SO much good work is happening, thanks to dedicated patients, researchers, and clinicians.? ? Wearable technologies make up 80% of the library, showcasing their versatility and affordability. ?? Ambient technologies are growing, offering low patient burden and capturing meaningful signals of daily patterns and experiences.? ??♂?Physical activity metrics dominate, covering gait, balance, tremor, and more — reflecting critical aspects of the PD experience. ?? However, we also have data on neurocognition, activities of daily living, and sleep.? ? We have more work to do to truly capture the full patient experience in PD, with more research needed in cognition, ADLs, sleep, and other underrepresented areas like mental health and digestion. The technologies in this Library are revolutionizing clinical trials and care by facilitating novel insights, deepening our understanding of the disease trajectory, and enabling comprehensive monitoring that captures lived experience in natural settings. This work is a significant step towards more effective, equitable, and patient-centered PD trials and care. It's about empowering patients and improving quality of life for those living with PD. ?
