After more than 50 festive events this year, that's a wrap on the NeuGroup 2024 in person meeting schedule! And we ended with a bang. The NeuGroup for Capital Markets gathered in NYC at the meeting sponsor Chatham Financial's offices in Hudson Yards for two days of collaboration, sharing of best practices, and general merriment. The experienced Chatham team of Amol Dhargalkar, Reuben Daniels, Jason Peterson and Kevin Jones helped drive insightful conversations on topics including the current market look, share repurchases, recent issuances, technology trends, cross-functional initiatives, and many others. The group also got some fresh air with an afternoon walk on the Manhattan Highline. The cocktails and dinner at BOTTINO Restaurant were also memorable. A big thank you to those members who volunteered their time to lead sessions including Lukas Abrahams (Cigna), Catalina Sierra Mejía (Owens-Illinois), Teresa Pedley (Lockheed Martin), Viviana Salazar (Block), Andrew Grove, CTP (Caterpillar), Brady Knudsen (Home Depot) and Federico Papa. The biggest congratulations go to the NeuGroup lead for all 50+ of those meetings - Alyssa McArdle, CMP (and her colleague Zandra Floirendo). Alyssa was greatly aided by the crack Chatham team of Emma Mebane and Carolyn Seergy at this event. Great job team. I'm in the midst of planning the group's 2025 schedule of events, starting with the Spring of 2025 on the West Coast. Stay tuned and contact me to learn more or hear any of the details from this event. Joseph Neu

Throughout 2024, many corporates have transformed their business portfolios and global footprints through complex divestitures,?spins, mergers and acquisitions—and 2025 is set to be an even busier year following the election results in the U.S. As treasury’s role varies throughout deal lifecycles, teams must continuously assess risks and define opportunities. During a session this Thursday featuring Andrey Chepiga from EY, members will dive into how companies may best manage treasury requirements while meeting broader business objectives. We had a fantastic time at the inaugural?NeuGroup?for Technology in-person event last week in San Francisco, California. This meeting was the middle chapter of our three consecutive Peer Group Meetings in the city, (Global Cash & Banking, NeuGroup for Technology Advancement, and Latin America Treasury) and it continued a great string of events in the Bay Area for corporates coming up the learning curve on digital assets, data management, and artificial intelligence. A big thank you to?Aaron Jacob?and?Taxbit?for sponsoring the event and providing the group with an insightful update on the regulatory environment for 2025 and use cases for corporates. We also enjoyed excellent member-led sessions by?Claire Wang, MBA, CPA (ServiceNow),?who shared on the 'Data Lake Deep-end' for corporates building enterprise wide?data lakes?to build into LLMs,?Kenny Tse, CTP (Alphabet Inc./Google)?and?Sean (Shaolong) W. (Autodesk)?joined myself on a panel discussion sharing?highlights of their technology journeys as heads of treasury technology and showcased the incredible value they’ve brought to their organizations from process improvements with automation, newly designed processes, and learnings along the way – a call out by one of the members presenting "we learned early on in our journey the one thing you cannot automate is people." Thank you to all the members who joined us—it was wonderful to not only dive into these informative sessions but also to connect over cocktails, dinner, and the many side conversations during breaks throughout the day. As a first NeuGroup meeting experience for some, it was amazing to be together.? Lastly, a huge thank you to the NeuGroup team for the behind-the-scenes work that made this event such a success Kyle Bockus, Zandra Floirendo, Julie Zawacki-Lucci, CTP, and Antony Michels who went above and beyond! ? We are excited about what’s ahead in 2025 and look forward to continuing to help members connect, learn, and exchange ideas - as technology and treasury become more and more synced up in the organization.

It was great meeting up with members of NeuGroup’s Pension & Benefits peer group in Manhattan last week. Many thanks to Ciaran Carr, CFA and Insight Investment for sponsoring and hosting at its terrific MetLife Building offices. Despite the distractions of beautiful views of the nearby Empire State building and the more distant Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, members discussed a variety of topical issues. These included members sharing current projects and priorities, an exploration of the international LDI landscape (featuring Insight Investment’s Hannah Ní Riain FIA and Callum Duffy), what to consider when considering an OCIO (featuring Jon Pliner, CFA and Gordon Fletcher from WTW), and finally, a look at how recent regulatory changes have made it easier to use cash balance plans for pension surpluses (thanks to Justin Demino at Insight Investment and Idan Shlesinger at October Three Consulting). Peer group members always make these meetings extremely edifying and interesting, but a lot goes into meeting set-up behind the scenes. Once again, a huge thanks to sponsor Insight Investment and its team: Ciaran Carr, CFA, Anna Danik, CFA, CAIA, Sarah Leffel, Aamna Azam, Jae R. and Zanna Stephan. And on the NeuGroup side, many thanks to Andrew Weber, Alyssa McArdle, CMP, Zandra Floirendo and Courtney Royer, for helping to make it all come together!

20 great years !??The?NeuGroup for EMEA Treasury?just celebrated its anniversary in our first-ever meeting in Berlin, at?Deutsche Bahn’s Hauptbahnhof, with our Founder & CEO Joseph Neu.??Thank you to our host,?Dr. Gerd Berghold, to our sponsor,?Andreas Gefnider?of?TIS (Treasury Intelligence Solutions), and to our member participants for a very high level of engagement and many substantive discussions. The event began with the camaraderie of a networking Walk & Talk in the?Tiergarten, as we wound our way to a delicious dinner at the?Paris-Moskau restaurant. From Gerd we learned about the systematic approach that Deutsche Bahn uses in its award-winning treasury function.??Among the highlights, the participants explored several DB examples of how to approach a cost/benefit analysis for each major category of treasury technology investment. During our?Projects & Priorities, session, the heart of the NeuGroup peer exchange experience, members shared their challenges over the coming months and years and helped each other find ways to approach those challenges. Jani Relander?described his treasury team's transformation to accompany and enhance?ABB’s significant multi-year evolution while maintaining the firm’s core decentralized operating model.??Treasury is implementing a multi-year plan to simplify processes, centralize both execution and expertise, and refine the organization model.??Their goal is to foster transparency, accountability, and speed of execution while keeping decision-making, risks and rewards at the operating company level. We were honored to have?Ford Motor Company’s ever-optimistic?Clive Bailey?with us on the eve of his retirement for a Q&A with Joseph Neu.??His responsibilities will soon pass to?Matt Armbruster.???Clive reflected on the highlights of his forty-year career in treasury, his outlook for the future, and his counsel about navigating treasury over this current period of seemingly imperturbable markets despite significant underlying macroeconomic risks. Joseph Neu provided a thought-provoking crystal ball to members with his presentation on?The Future of Treasury, focusing especially on the potential long-term consequences of AI and treasury’s evolving role as an enabler of business success. Our event ended with a rapid-fire session called?Solve My Problem !??which focuses on topics that were not treated during the other sessions. My thanks also to?Courtney Royer,?Zandra Floirendo,?Alyssa McArdle, CMP,?Jake Bromsey,?Chris Riordan, and?Joseph Neu?for making this event a success. We look forward to seeing our members next May 20-22 in Zurich.

We conducted a tremendous NeuGroup session yesterday, celebrating the Marine Corps' birthday and Veteran's Day with three vet-owned broker dealers. Thank you to Drexel Hamilton's Melissa Hiler Fay (US Navy Veteran), CAVU Securities, LLC's Al Kirton (Marine Corps vet), Roberts & Ryan's Ed D'Alessandro (US Navy Veteran) and their guests Amanda Schimmel from Blue Owl Capital and Jeff McPhee from Analog Devices who brought a corporate perspective. Our treasury members learned valuable information about the expanding capabilities of vet-owned firms, the ways corporate support helps advance the cause of transitioning our vets to the civilian business world, and best practices in capital markets transactions. Thank you to all our members and sponsors who have served. We look forward to hosting more conversations like this in 2025. Joseph Neu
