Here is a great article from Dark Reading on a recent threat to Windows users that would result in a full-device takeover. We recommend you read the full article, but here are the broad strokes: ·?It’s a malicious version of the Remcos remote admin tool ·?The attack chain starts with a phishing email designed to get you to click on an excel file disguised as a business order ·?It collects some basic information from the victim’s device, and then encrypts and sends this data to its server to register that the victim’s device is online and ready to be controlled Low-tech phishing & social-engineering threats like these continue to be among the most common and dangerous cybersecurity threats. Prevention requires a multifaceted approach: ·?Regular security awareness training ·?Patch management strategy ·?Advanced email security ·?Modern endpoint security We, of course, leverage these tactics for our clients and always recommend a proactive approach.
