We had the honor of hosting the local VMUG chapter at our Phoenix data center. A special thanks to INVITE Networks Inc. and NetCyberOps for their invaluable support and participation. Highlights included deep dives into Broadcom/VMware updates with our local Technical Rockstar David Determan and myself. Cybersecurity insights from our friends at NetCyberOps, and a tour of our advanced data center. It was a day of great conversations and networking. Thanks to all who made it a memorable event! #clouddifferent, #VMUG, #Cybersecurity, #broadcom, #PhoenixTechnology
?? Cybersecurity Alert: UPS emails serving malware! NetCyberOps would like to share a critical cybersecurity incident recently investigated by our 24/7 Secure Operations Center. Incident Overview: One of our valued customers recently received a legitimate email from UPS. Within this email, a banner advertisement promoted UPS My Choice—a service enabling users to manage their package deliveries. However, concealed behind this seemingly innocuous ad lies a hidden danger. Attached image shows what the banner advertisement looked like. ?? The Trap: Domain Squatting This technique involves registering domain names closely resembling well-known brands. These deceptive domains aim to confuse users, capitalizing on their trust in reputable companies. In this case, the cybercriminals exploited the once-legitimate domain upsmychoicedeals[.]com. ?? The Malicious Intent: The domain, now under malicious control, serves as a platform for distributing harmful content. Users who unsuspectingly click on the link may encounter phishing attempts, malware, or other threats. It’s a classic case of wolves donning sheep’s clothing. ?? Why Is This a Concern? Despite its compromised status, UPS continues to include this banner ad in their email communications. As recipients, we must remain cautious. Cybercriminals exploit our trust in reputable brands, and domain squatting is just one of their tactics. ?? Stay Safe: Best Practices Verify Domains: Always double-check URLs before clicking. Hover over links to reveal their true destinations. Educate Your Team: Train employees to recognize suspicious domains, attachments, and website content. Use Security Software: Employ robust tools that detect and block malicious emails, domains, and websites. Report Incidents: If you encounter suspicious domains, report them to your IT or security team. ?? Conclusion: Let’s collectively raise awareness about domain squatting. By sharing knowledge, we fortify our defenses against cyber threats. #CybersecurityAwareness #DomainSquatting #StaySafeOnline #EmailSecurity
