This month we kicked off the second cohort of the Emerging and Diverse Developers (EDD) program in partnership with Ramsey County and Baker Tilly. Through the program we offer one-to-one technical assistance and group learning to emerging and diverse developers interested in affordable housing. This session in particular was about “Understanding Property Insurance Site Potential” and featured the incredibly knowledgable Dwayne Toatley of The Zachary Group. We caught up with Sam Buffington, community organizer over at Springboard for the Arts to chat about @825arts. He touched on the importance of having a space like this in Frogtown and Rondo for early career artists and cultural exchange. In a community like Frogtown and Rondo, where you can walk three blocks and hear four different languages, having a space where cultural knowledge can be exchanged is incredibly important. It’s how bridges are made, understanding is found, and roots are solidified — especially using the arts as a vessel.
