(NRP?) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.

Not only is the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program? the gold standard for #neonatal #resuscitation training for #perinatal/#neonatal professionals in the U.S., it has been utilized in over 140 countries around the world. It has been wonderful to be in Shanghai, China with Dr Bobbi Byrne, co-chair of the NRP Steering Committee, and to co-teach a group of Instructor Candidates at the Children’s Hospital at Fudan University. Over three days, “Beena Laoshi” and “Bobbi Laoshi” will be supporting these Instructor Candidates to hone their facilitation, and #simulation and #debriefing skills, so that they can promote optimal performance of #ventilation (“Tong qi”) and teamwork, cornerstones of neonatal resuscitation. It has been fantastic to work with such enthusiastic learners and to build effective resuscitation teams spanning Labor and Delivery/Obstetrics/Midwifery and Neonatology! (And, some Tiny Hats for Tiny Babies made it to China too!)

Where does the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program? textbook and educational program come from? It starts with the extensive evidence evaluation of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Neonatal Task Force, pictured here, at the annual meeting, this year in Taipei. Comprised of members from the American Heart Association InterAmerican Heart Foundation Indian Resuscitation Council Federation RESUSCITATION COUNCIL OF SOUTHERN AFRICA Resuscitation Council of Asia ERC European Resuscitation Council Heart & Stroke of Canada Australia and New Zealand Council on Resuscitation, these experts in neonatal resuscitation review the evidence pertaining to important questions about neonatal resuscitation and write Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR). These CoSTR then go to the local resuscitation council (American Heart Association), which collaborates with the American Academy of Pediatrics expert members to write guidelines pertinent to North America. The American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program? Steering Committee, with liaisons from American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN), American Association for Respiratory Care, American College of Nurse-Midwives, then use those guidelines to write the NRP textbook and develop the educational program that you know and love. It is a long, intensive and deliberate process, done by some of the most passionate people I have ever met. It is truly a privilege to work with the leading experts in this field. Current Issues Seminar at the #AAP2024 American Academy of Pediatrics AAP Experience National Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, FL on September 27, 2024! Our amazing faculty led by Christa Blohowiak, MSN, RN, and Nicole Yamada, MD, MS, FAAP shared updates about NRP, discussed preparing for and leading a resuscitation, laryngeal mask usage, and resuscitation for babies with congenital anomalies, and provided updates on the DRIVE Network.?Additionally, engaging breakout sessions included a neonatal resuscitation competition, DIY Moulage for Creating Congenital Anomalies, and Best Practices for NRP Instructors.?We look forward to seeing you next year at #AAP2025 in Denver, CO!

I have made it safely to Orlando for the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition and am spending two days with the Neonatal Resuscitation Program? Steering Committee as they continue intense discussions about the 9th Edition of NRP, to be released in 2025, in conjunction with the neonatal life support scientific guidelines co-produced by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. For many of them, these thoughtful discussions are a labor of intense dedication. We are grateful to these volunteers for their time and expertise—the past and present NRP Steering Committee members are the thought leaders in #neonatal #resuscitation and bridge the vast spectrum of experience from community hospital to urban center, early career, nursing, nurse educator, midwifery, neonatology, general pediatrics, respiratory therapy, obstetrics, and more.
