Last weekend, I had the privilege of participating in the Boston College Joseph E. Corcoran Center For Real Estate And Urban Action’s annual Real Estate Trek to Miami and Miami Beach, FL. Friday marked our first full day in Miami, filled with guest speakers, site visits, and excursions around the city. One highlight of the day was learning about the affordable housing market during a site visit to Vista Breeze, a development by Atlantic Pacific Companies. We also visited Neology Life’s Fourteen Main Street Residences, where I took particular interest in learning about the company’s innovative approach to creating luxury affordable apartments. On Saturday, we continued to delve into the Miami real estate scene. A standout experience was touring 830 Brickell, a Class A+ office building in the heart of the financial district. I especially enjoyed learning about their leasing strategies and tenant profile. We wrapped up the trip with lunch with Trish Blasi, President and Founder of Borghese Investments. Hearing about her career development was both inspiring and insightful—a great way to end the trip. A special thank you to Professors Taylor Perkins and Neil McCullagh for advising the group, and to Justine Rozenich and Dawson Jessee for your exceptional planning. You all created an unforgettable and transformative experience!

Ever wondered what it takes to redefine a city’s landscape and make your mark in real estate development? This question has fascinated me long before I even entered the real estate world. Even as a curious observer, I would look at city skylines and bustling urban centers in awe, wondering how these architectural marvels came to be. What kind of vision, resilience, and leadership does it take to shape the very fabric of a community? Yesterday, at Florida International University - College of Business’s REact Conference I had the privilege of hearing from two women who answered that question in the most inspiring way: Lissette Calderon and Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos. The discussion was thoughtfully moderated by?Clay B Dickinson. Lissette, the trailblazing founder and CEO of Neology Life, shared how her passion for real estate was sparked during childhood visits to construction sites with her father. Despite life’s challenges, she pursued her dreams at the Wharton School and returned to Miami, where she transformed the Miami River with innovative, loft-style residential developments. “I saw a problem that needed solving,” she said, “and I knew I had to create spaces that felt like home for people like me.” Today, she continues to make waves with her newest project in the Palmer Lake District, demonstrating the power of seeing potential where others see limitations. Dayssi, co-founder and president of Flag Luxury Group, spoke about her rise from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration to leading the development of world-renowned luxury projects like the Ritz Carlton Residences. Her emphasis on experiential living and forward-thinking design left a lasting impression: “People don’t just want luxury anymore; they crave experiences,” she explained. Dayssi’s ability to anticipate and respond to market shifts has made her a pioneer in the hospitality industry. Less than 10% of top real estate developers are women. In an industry where women are often underestimated, Lissette and Dayssi’s stories are a powerful testament to perseverance, vision, and breaking through barriers. They reminded us of the importance of lifting each other up, finding mentors, and creating a path for future generations of women leaders. I would love to see these two women in a panel at one of the 2025 CREWMiami luncheons. To all the women out there: Your dreams are valid, your voice matters, and your vision can transform communities. Whether you're standing at a construction site or in a boardroom, or sitting in a classroom, always believe in your own potential. Women like Lissette and Dayssi prove that breaking into male-dominated spaces is not just possible but essential.
