The Northeast Ohio Hispanic Center for Economic Development (NEOHCED) is committed to equitable asset building in Cleveland’s Latino community by providing economic and entrepreneurial technical assistance, training, and advocacy. NEOHCED is a host organization to the Small Business Development Centers program, the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is the lead organization for the Community Development and placemaking initiative, La Villa Hispana. Our Small Business Development Center program provides, free Spanish-bilingual training and advising to entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a business. Our advisors provide general business consulting, and specialized advising opportunities to entrepreneurs in all stages of business. For close to 40 years, the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has represented the Latino and non-Latino business community in Northeast Ohio. NEOHCC provides advocacy, connections, and networking opportunities to diverse suppliers and buyers. Our chamber actively promotes the economic growth, development, and interests of our membership portfolio and stakeholder alliances. The work NEOHCED leads in community and economic development is intentionally Latino centric, ensuring equitable investments and growth for La Villa Hispana and neighboring communities within Northeast Ohio.

It’s a wrap for our #UnidosUS24 Annual Conference! ? I leave this conference inspired by all of my colleagues across the country advocating and raising the profile of Latino issues. Growth Opportunity Partners, a Cleveland-based non-profit finance fund, has been awarded a $156 million dollar grant from the EPA! This grant will fund the installation of solar energy systems in an eight-state area, providing a boost to our local and regional economy. The Rising Contractors program, an innovative initiative launched by Gilbane, empowers small and diverse-owned construction companies to reach new heights. For example, 16 firms in Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh are currently enrolled with Gilbane in this transformative 12-week program aimed at boosting their skills, expanding their networks, and elevating their businesses. Tailored for minority-owned, women-owned, disadvantaged, LGBTQ, and veteran-owned contractors, the program provides hands-on training in industry best practices, mentoring from Gilbane experts, and insights into successfully bidding on and managing construction projects. Since its launch in 2020, over 245 companies have graduated from Rising Contractors, gaining the knowledge and confidence to compete for more contracts both with Gilbane and across the industry. Looking ahead, Gilbane has pledged to award $100 million in contracts to program graduates by 2026, part of our broader commitment to generate $4 billion in awards to underrepresented firms over the next five years, including veteran, minority, and women-owned businesses. By investing in the capacity building of minority firms, Gilbane is demonstrating its commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive construction industry.
