  • The state of Georgia's legislature is considering a bill that would dramatically advance Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) in the state. This bill will modernize the state's 9-1-1 emergency communications, with improvements such as better cybersecurity and automatic call rerouting to neighboring jurisdictions during disasters like 2024's Hurricane Helene, when this capability was a lifesaver in neighboring North Carolina. At the federal level, NENA and our allies in the U.S. Senate and House also continue to push for comprehensive NG911 funding and implementation. Georgia's proactive steps with HB 423 not only align with these national efforts but also underscore the importance of state-level initiatives in achieving our shared goal: ensuring every American has access to robust and secure NG911 services. • Honoring Leadership in 9-1-1: Brian Fontes Receives the Carla Anderson Award ?? At last week's NG911 Institute Honor Awards in the U.S. Senate Hart Building, NENA CEO Brian Fontes was presented with the Carla Anderson Heart of 9-1-1 Award—a recognition of his unwavering dedication to advancing emergency communications and public safety. This prestigious award honors the late Carla Anderson, whose tireless work as the NG911 Institute's first full-time Executive Director helped shape the future of Next Generation 9-1-1, and most notably working with the Congressional NG9-1-1 Caucus to promote the deployment of NG911 services across the nation. As Jennifer White, Past President of NENA, and Executive Director of Partnerships at RapidSOS noted: "Brian's leadership has revitalized NENA and united the best minds in our field. Like many others in this room, I've become a better 9-1-1 professional, industry leader, and person because of what I've learned from him… Under Brian's leadership, NENA transformed into a fully accredited standards developer and established the i3 Next Generation 9-1-1 standard—ensuring interoperability and equipping first responders with critical capabilities." Brian's dedication to advancing 9-1-1 policy, technology, and collaboration has strengthened the industry and improved public safety nationwide. Join us in congratulating Brian Fontes on this well-deserved honor! ?? #NG911 #PublicSafety #NENAGTW ?? Watch the award presentation below ??

  • 9-1-1 leaders took action this week on Capitol Hill! At 9-1-1 Goes to Washington, we made sure policymakers heard why 9-1-1 needs stronger support & investment. From advancing Next Generation 9-1-1 to securing telecommunicator reclassification, 9-1-1 professionals from across the nation met with nearly 200 congressional offices to push for action on these critical public safety issues. ?? Shoutout to the Texas NENA chapter for sharing this photo from their meeting with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. Given the committee's role in overseeing communications policy—including spectrum auctions that could fund #NG911—his support is key to ensuring emergency responders have the resources they need to save lives. #NG911NOW #911SAVES #NENAGTW

  • ?? BREAKING: The Enhancing First Response Act Reintroduced in the Senate! ?? NENA applauds the bipartisan reintroduction of the Enhancing First Response Act (S.725)—a bill that would reclassify working in 9-1-1 as a Protective Service Occupation!
