Better Data. Better Care.
关于我们
NEMSIS is the National Emergency Medical Services Information System. It is the official EMS Data Standard for collecting EMS data in the United States and the associated territories. NEMSIS provides the architecture to move data efficiently and effectively across multiple platforms and offers a National EMS Data Repository from more than 10,000 EMS agencies. GOALS: Improve understanding of, confidence in and support for EMS data collection and analysis across all target audiences within the EMS community. It is our hope that a better understanding will lead to EMS data being utilized more effectively to improve patient care. Provide guidance to all states and territories working to revise data elements, improve data capture, and ensure they have a NEMSIS compliant data system in place which can send and receive the Version 3 Data Standard. Provide guidance for the implementation of an electronic EMS documentation system in every local EMS system, which can collect and use data based on the current NHTSA Version 3 dataset standard. Provide guidance for the implementation of a state EMS information system in every state and territory, which can receive and use a portion of the local EMS data via the NEMSIS/HL7 XML standard. Improve access to the National EMS Database for reporting capabilities, allowing Federal, State, and Local EMS stakeholders access to performance and benchmarking metrics.

Researchers found significant recent changes in the frequency and use of naloxone during opioid overdose emergencies. Analyzing NEMSIS data, researchers found that while EMS-documented naloxone administrations decreased by 6.1% between June 2020 and June 2022, naloxone administration by laypersons before EMS arrival increased by 43.5%. This rise reflects the growing impact of take-home naloxone initiatives and underscores the importance of community preparedness. Read the complete study here: https://lnkd.in/g3sqQspM.

A recent study shows EMS care varies across the U.S. based on geography, patient acuity, and insurance coverage. Utilizing data from over 4 million EMS responses in the 2019 NEMSIS dataset, researchers found that patients in rural areas are less likely to receive ALS care during low-acuity emergencies compared to urban settings. Also, public insurance coverage is associated with lower odds of ALS utilization for low-acuity cases. These disparities highlight gaps in EMS resource availability and utilization, particularly in rural regions. Explore the full study: https://lnkd.in/gd5wAbTv

A recent study highlights the critical role of early Tourniquet Placement (TP) for children experiencing traumatic bleeding. By analyzing data from NEMSIS, the study found that tourniquet placement, whether by bystanders, first responders, or other EMS clinicians, significantly improves patient acuity during EMS care. Tourniquets placed by bystanders or first responders prior to EMS transport arrival resulted in even higher acuity improvements. These findings underscore the importance of widespread training on early tourniquet use by bystanders and across all prehospital responder levels, aiming to empower anyone at the scene to make a life-saving difference among kids suffering extensive bleeding due to trauma. PWW|AG is excited to announce the National EMS Documentation Survey, which will identify attitudes, challenges, and issues inherent in documenting EMS patient interactions. EMS leaders have consistently identified high-quality clinical and operational documentation as one of their organizations' most vexing and persistent challenges. The National EMS Documentation Survey may be completed by any individual with a role in EMS, including EMS practitioners, medical directors, EMS leaders, managers and executives, EMS billing and revenue cycle management professionals, and others. The Survey will measure critical issues such as: ?????????????????????EMS provider and leadership attitudes toward patient care report (PCR) documentation; ?????????????????????Comfort with and ease of use of EMS PCR technology; ?????????????????????Sufficiency of time allocated to PCR documentation; ?????????????????????Need for training and education on EMS documentation issues; The Survey takes an estimated 10-15 minutes to complete. The results will help provide insight and research into improving EMS patient care reporting documentation and will help provide the tools and support that EMS professionals need to produce high-quality documentation.
