We are currently accepting applications for two new research projects. Open to all high schoolers, but preference would be given to those from Northeastern India. Students will learn valuable research skills such as conducting basic literature searches, conducting research based interviews, data analysis etc. The first project is led by Jasmine Gurung, 3rd year Political Science Major: Title: "The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in India: A Critical Examination of its Compatibility with International Human Rights Standards and the Quest for Legal Reform" Research Question: "How does the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in India intersect with the evolving jurisprudence of international human rights laws, and what legal and policy measures can be devised to harmonize AFSPA with international norms, while addressing national security concerns and upholding the principles of justice and accountability?" Second Project is Led by Laxmi Neog, Cotton College, Department of Sociology Exploring the Lived Experiences of Northeast Indians as a Minority Group in Mainland India: An Ethnographic Study" Research Question: How do Northeast Indians perceive their identity as a minority group in Mainland India? What are the challenges that Northeast Indians face in their everyday lives in Mainland India? How do social structures, power relations, and cultural norms shape the experiences of Northeast Indians in Mainland India? Methodology: This study will employ an ethnographic research design to gather rich qualitative data on the experiences of Northeast Indians living as a minority group in Mainland India. The study will involve participant observation and semi-structured interviews with Northeast Indian individuals living in various regions of Mainland India, as well as with members of the dominant ethnic groups in these regions. The study will also utilize archival research to examine historical and cultural factors that may have contributed to the marginalization of Northeast Indians in Mainland India. Data analysis will involve a thematic approach to identify patterns and themes in the data. More details of this can be found at: https://lnkd.in/eHNuMj4H
