Excited to announce the publication of a newly conducted study on?coordinated health promotion by ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) in rural India, focusing on maternal health outcomes in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar (n=6,635). ?? Key Insights: When women received coordinated counseling messages from both ASHAs and AWWs, we saw significantly improved outcomes in: ? Birth preparedness ? Institutional deliveries ? Postnatal care ? Postpartum contraceptive adoption ?? These outcomes were much stronger compared to standalone counseling by either cadre, highlighting the power of collaboration in community health. ?? Why it matters: This is among the first quantitative studies to evaluate the impact of such coordination in India's health system, addressing a crucial evidence gap in community health worker (CHW) convergence. ?? Policy relevance: Our findings reinforce efforts by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women & Child Development to enhance integrated service delivery at the village level. Our latest research, published in BMC Public Health, explores the impact of the Tiko Platform, a commercial social-franchising and social-marketing initiative, on family planning and maternal health outcomes in North Indian cities. Focusing on private-sector interventions, the study reveals significant associations between Tiko usage and improved health behaviors, including increased use of modern contraceptives and enhanced antenatal and postnatal services. The findings advocate for a collaborative approach to public health, seamlessly integrating private and government services.
