Last week, we were delighted to participate in the Massachusetts Municipal Association's Annual #Connect351 Conference in Boston! We had an excellent time networking with representatives from municipalities across the state and providing information about both our #environmental and #housing programs. ?? ?? We were thrilled to be joined by our friend and partner, Chloe Shields, Deputy?Director of the New England Environmental Finance Center – an organization which provides innovative financing solutions that help states, tribes, local governments, non-profits, community-based organizations, and the private sector pay for environmental projects. The SNEP 5-year celebration event, "Better Together: Collaborative Action to Improve Water Quality and Build Resilience," recognized eight Rhode Island and Massachusetts communities for their work and achievements in the following categories: - The Multiplier Award to communities that have secured funding sources to advance their projects; presented to Buzzards Bay Coalition & Town of Portsmouth, RI. - The Barrier Breaker Award to communities that overcame challenging obstacles; presented to Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) and the Assawompset Pond Complex Working Group, MA & Town of Coventry, RI & Upper Dam Pond Conservation Association. - The Bridge Builder Award to communities that excelled at outreach, engagement, and consensus building in their communities; presented to Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe & The Town of Mashpee, MA & Town of Westerly, RI & Southern Rhode Island Conservation District. - The Futures Award to communities that excelled at building their local capacity using the SNEP Network tools, training, and/or technical assistance; presented to the Town of Swansea, MA & Aquidneck Island Communities (Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, RI), Aquidneck Land Trust & Naval Station Newport. A multi-disciplinary team of researchers at UConn has received a five-year $10 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to lead a New England regional center focused on environmental justice.
