Why are shelters for women victims of domestic violence important, and why do they need our immediate attention and support? In 2024, more than 500 women and children in Puerto Rico turned to shelters for safety, and femicide reached an all-time high. Now, with funding cuts, these shelters are at risk of having to reduce services, leaving countless lives in danger. This Women's History Month, we’re giving recognition to the shelters that supported women and children, providing them with safety, hope, and the chance to rebuild their lives. We are sharing real powerful stories of four brave women—stories of survival made possible by these incredible shelters.
