Beginning in late 2024 the leadership with IBEW 654 participated in our first ever MHFA training. This month we introduced the training to our apprentices with the goal of overcoming negative stigmas associated with seeking help for mental and behavioral health within the construction industry. MHFA training in the construction industry needs to become as commonplace as CPR First Aid, OSHA 30, and Fall Protection programs. Mental healthcare is healthcare. “One life lost to suicide is one life to many”

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) is the voice of the $255 billion industry responsible for bringing electrical power, lighting, and communications to buildings and communities across the United States. NECA is a dynamic national organization serving the management interests of the entire electrical contracting industry. The Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter of NECA is a resource for electrical contractors in the Southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Areas. The Chapter is more supportive, dynamic, and progressive than ever. Chartered in 1939 with the vision of elevating the electrical contracting industry, the Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter, provides our members with industry expertise in safety, management, and innovation. These exceptional resources within an expansive network are accessible to electrical contractors who are inspired to use their experiences to lead the industry. We may be one of the largest chapters within NECA, but we are always looking for more ways to grow.

We appreciate Microsoft and Fox Business Network for highlighting the dire need for skilled workers and how it is impacting the development of our nation. As the leading voice for the industry, NECA has been actively addressing the growing workforce gap to ensure a strong pipeline of highly skilled electricians who will meet the increasing demands of projects. Through our investment of over $320 million in world-class training, apprenticeships and continued education, NECA is shaping the next generation of electrical professionals. Over the coming years, we remain dedicated to redefining the perception of electricians, showcasing their critical role in powering everything we touch, see and experience! This past Saturday, the Chapter sponsored an NFPA 70E class at the Scranton Electricians JATC Training Center. The course provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of all applicable changes to the standard, along with a review of practical, safety-related electrical work practices. Special thanks to Jim Dollard for teaching a great course!! #Education #ElectricalConstruction #WeAreNECA

The Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter Military Veterans and Service Members Committee recently held a fundraiser to help the Wilkes Barre VA Medical Center’s "Operation Diaper Bag,” an initiative to provide expecting and new Veteran moms the essential items needed to care for their baby. Items and funds were collected from Chapter Contractor Members in the Shamokin, Wilkes Barre, and Scranton Divisions, and also from the members of the Chapter’s Veterans Committee. A total of $3,500 was raised and presented to the Medical Center. Thank you to all who participated in this fundraiser and a special thanks to Michael B. for organizing!

Last weekend, the Chapter was honored to attend the gala celebrating the reopening of the National Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society. In 2022, the home where Marian Anderson grew up was devastated by flooding. The Chapter was proud to help support its restoration and extends special thanks to Kenneth MacDougall, H.B. Frazer Company, and IBEW LOCAL UNION 98 for their dedicated efforts. Marian Anderson’s voice was a powerful force for change. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest classical singers of all time and a Philadelphia treasure. We congratulate Jillian Patricia Pirtle on her incredible work in restoring this Philadelphia landmark.
