In 1942, the legendary science fiction author Isaac Asimov introduced his Three Laws of #Robotics. ? First Law: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. ? Second Law: A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. ? Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. With the rapid advancement of AI technologies, experts suggest that Asimov's traditional laws of robotics may require updates. The research team, including members from NEC Japan and NEC Laboratories America, emphasizes that their solution stands out from competitors due to its quantitative vision-language model capabilities and retrieval-augmented generation (#RAG) technology, which enhances query accuracy and interactive response. This innovation allows users to interact with satellite-derived information using natural language queries, making complex data more accessible. ? The system’s key benefits include enhanced situational awareness for #disastermanagement, infrastructure monitoring, and insurance assessments, as well as optimized multimodal data retrieval for more accurate and timely decision-making. By eliminating the need for expert interpretation of satellite imagery, the technology ensures faster and more precise insights across various industries, including insurance, energy, and carbon credit verification. Use cases range from disaster damage assessment and insurance fraud detection to monitoring carbon credit claims and infrastructure changes. We plan to further integrate additional data sources, such as ground-based images and government documents, to enhance decision-making capabilities. Contributing to innovation in the medical field! NEC Corporation and Tohoku University Hospital have been awarded the "President of the Science Council of Japan Award" at the 7th Japan Open Innovation Awards, hosted by Japan’s Cabinet Office.
