Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 24-28 and being prepared is always best. Over the last three weeks NDOT has been out training Nebraska’s local agencies on the FHWA ER program and how to respond to an Emergency Event. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Emergency Relief (ER) Program, administered by the NDOT Local Public Assistance, helps local public agencies (LPAs) secure federal aid reimbursement for disaster-related infrastructure repairs. The program ensures roads and bridges are restored after a disaster event. The new Emergency Relief website assists our communities in being prepared, as well as navigating the restoration process after a disaster event. The site helps: Before a major weather event – Review the Emergency Relief Program Guide as a refresher on procedures if damage occurs to FA routes. After a disaster – Document damages on FA routes. The site includes a Map of Federal Aid Routes and a Disaster Event Reporting Portal to easily submit required information. Following a disaster declaration – Use the guide to assist in seeking FHWA reimbursement for FA route repairs. Also available training documents and other forms and resources.
