关于我们
In 1995, the Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) was founded as an independent, non-profit group of research sites that collaboratively conduct clinical research in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other motor neuron diseases. While retaining its original acronym and focus on ALS trials, NEALS has since developed into an international, consortium of ALS clinical research centers. Together, the scientists at these centers work to improve the efficiency and quality of ALS clinical trials and research, expand access to clinical research, support biomarker development with a robust biorepository, innovate ALS clinical care, and educate the community about ALS research. Through these efforts, NEALS strives to rapidly translate scientific breakthroughs into new therapies and help people with ALS live longer and maintain a higher quality of life.

Thank you American Neurological Association for the opportunity to present “What’s on the Horizon for ALS”. Learnings from previous trials and support from funders have helped push our field forward to a new era of research. Wonderful session with speakers Prof Thomas Lloyd (Baylor) on inclusion body myositis and Prof Carsten Bonnemann ( NIH) on gene therapy for neuromuscular disease! Thank you to chairs, Dr. Brett Morrison ( JHU) and Dr. Hani Kushlaf ( U Cincinnati) !

?? Congratulations to NEALS Science Advisory Board Member, Rita Sattler, PhD, MSc, on receiving the Target ALS Basic Biology Consortia Grant! ? Learn more about the grant and Dr. Rita Sattler's work in #ALS research! ?
Congratulations to Barrow professor Rita Sattler, PhD, MSc, and her collaborators on receiving a competitive Target ALS Basic Biology Consortia Grant for a project aimed at understanding how TDP-43 dysfunction in glia contributes to #amyotrophiclateralsclerosis (ALS). In 97% of ALS cases, the TDP-43 protein moves from its normal place in the nucleus of cells to the cytoplasm, where it aggregates and affects cell function. Typically, this pathology is studied in neurons. By understanding how TDP-43 dysfunction in the non-neuronal support cells in the #brain contributes to ALS, the consortium hopes to find new ways to treat the disease that can be applied to the 97% of #ALS cases where TDP-43 is affected. Dr. Sattler's collaborators include Dr. Yuna Ayala of Saint Louis University, Dr. Christopher Donnelly of the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Patrick Pirrotte of TGen - Part of City of Hope, and Dr. Kendall Van Keuren-Jensen of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Their consortia was one of six that received funding out of applications submitted by 106 scientists from 76 institutions in 13 countries. Learn more about this grant: https://bar.rw/3WrXNzP
