Increasing the Resiliency of Regional Dairy: grants & technical services for Northeast dairy farmers and processors.
关于我们
At NE-DBIC, our goal is to create resiliency and long-term sustainability for Northeast dairy businesses. We support dairy farmers and processors through grants, access to technical services, education, and events that promote the development, production, marketing, and distribution of regional dairy products. The NE-DBIC serves an 11-state region: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Based in Vermont and hosted by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, the NE-DBIC is one of four regional USDA Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives (DBII) in the nation.

The Dairy Workforce Impact Fund is underway and in the news! As part of the first phase of investments, NE-DBIC is funding the Center for Dairy Excellence to expand their Dairy Herd Manager Apprenticeship Program: "'Apprenticeships are critical opportunities to get hands-on, real-world experience with the enticement of earning while you learn,'?Secretary Redding said. The?Center for Dairy Excellence?sponsors Dairy Herd Manager Apprentices and Farm Labor Pre-apprentices, which are registered with the Apprenticeship and Training Office (ATO) within the?Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I). The apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in a real-world setting, without interrupting the apprentices’ income stream. The goal is to develop the skilled managers and labor the nearly 5,000 dairy farms across the state need to succeed. With additional funding from the?Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center, the program is expanding its reach to provide more opportunities for workers over age 18." We love seeing grantee projects come to fruition! This week MacGlaflin Farm of New Hampshire installed two manure collector robots, thanks to funding from our Dairy Farm Improvement & Modernization Grant. These make a big difference for herd health and labor efficiency. MacGlaflin Farm's note on Facebook says it all: "The robots are HERE!!!! Earlier this year we were awarded an NE-DBIC grant to purchase two Lely Discovery manure collector robots. They went into use Tuesday evening and are SO cool. Just think... giant roombas for the barn. They vacuum up the manure and carry it to the dumping station. The cows stay so much cleaner, as they are cleaned nearly 24 hours a day!" The Dairy Farm Improvement & Modernization Grant will open again this winter. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e3D39RjS #dairyfarming #dairyinnovation #dairyindustry

“This investment by USDA in organic dairy farms is a win-win—it will help get nutritious farm-fresh organic dairy to kids and create new market opportunities for Vermont-sized organic dairy producers,” said Senator Welch. “I'll keep fighting for more federal investments to strengthen Vermont dairy farms and create healthier futures for our kids and grandkids.” As part of a new $15 million national initiative, NE-DBIC will be granted $3.75 million to support expanded access to organic dairy products in educational institutions and youth programs. Thank you to USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service and Senator Welch for supporting this program! https://lnkd.in/e22RZjq4
